Opinions on replace or repair damaged bumper
Someone rear ended my car, and the insurance company is going to pay for a repair. The guy said the repair would look like new, that they can do plastic pretty well nowadays. Part of me wants to get it replaced, because its only 4 months old. but, instead of paying 250 deductible only, I would have to shell out another 400 for a replacement. not sure if its worth it, or how flawless repairs are. any opinions are appreciated!!

If it is only 400 I would personally replace it. Can you show a pic of the damage to get an idea how bad it is? I am pretty sure you can if it was not your fault you can request a new bumper. You do not have to agree with their first offer.

Any pics of the damage?
I would opt to replace the bumper that way you don't have to pay double if the maint work isn't up to your standards on the first go around.

No its not punctured...I went ahead and filed a claim because they said if they get the cover off, and the impact bumper is damaged at all, they would have to replace that too. I am supposed to get it back today, I am going to look at the repair really close to make sure its up to my standards. if not, ill send it back.

Now I am getting it back Monday. quick question: does the auto body shop normally wash your car when they are done? I don't really want them to wash it, I do it by hand only, and who knows what they use. if so, ill tell them not to do it.

Yes they will and they typically wash by hand as well which does not mean they do a good job. Problem is if it is too dusty and you cant see the job and you drive off, wash and realize its not done right, it might make it harder to deal with them once you take possession of the car instead of leaving it there. I would let them wash it so you can make sure you can be satisfied with the job.

Just had the rear bumper repaired on my car, picked it up yesterday and it is perfect. The damage was not bad, the bumper was not distorted, so I did not need a replacement, in fact the body shop recommends not replacing the rear bumper if possible. More work on their part to repair than replace.
