My new 2018 430i convertible must have front license plates - a law here in Texas - but I definitely do NOT want to drill holes in her gorgeous body! Following a link from another thread led to a website with a link to an article "No Drill Front License Plate Bracket: New Bracket Lineup 2017". While I found brackets for several BMW models, none specifically mentioned 2018 430i. It seems a "tow hook" attached bracket will work but I want to ask if anyone has a specific product to recommend. Thanks!!

I hear ya on not wanting to drill holes and ruin the look of the car. I couldn't do it either! I think the "tow hook" version is about the only no drill option.

This was my DIY:
Neodymium magnets epoxied to the inside of the bumper shell, with a soft rubberized magnet on the back of the license plate. I've driven more than a thousand freeway miles with the front plate attached and it's never fallen off. Google this number. It will lead you to the neodymium magnets on Amazon. ND05578-45NM It's a set of three N45 magnets, 1.5" diameter by .25 thick. I used JB Weld putty to stick them behind the bumper shell. Here's the rubber flex magnet on eBay. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1-MAG-TAG-M...-/122072265166 I used painter's tape to place the flex magnet on the outside of the bumper, where I wanted to mount the plate, then positioned the neodymium magnets on the inside. Having three magnets worked beautifully. The rubberized magnet snaps into the right position. |

WOW, rimesq, definitely a "MacGuiver" solution! My husband loved your idea. Thank you for sharing.
Actually, as i continued to dig into the tow hook connecting front plate brackets trohde78 mentioned, I found a new design option that looks very promising. The brackets are made to attach using clamps onto the front grill. While the 430i doesn't have a grill per se, but there is one vertical bar beneath the headlights that the bracket designer assures me will do. The bracket is suppose to be delivered any day now and I will post results. The company is Sly Brackets and the website is https://www.slybrackets.com/ If it does not work we will pursue the magnet solution, for sure! |
