European Delivery: Ski Trip or Grand Prix Trip?
Okay, so the lease on my e92 335i is up on April 8, 2013. About 2 pm to be specific. Anyway, I will be ordering a 328i for ED next spring. I don't know the specifics yet but it will have xenons, heated seats and some variant of sport suspension (either 704 or ZDH). I have narrowed down my ED trips to 2:
1. Early to Mid-March Ski trip. This would be about a 9-10 day, 5 country trip and would involve 5 days of skiing, 2 at Cortina, 2 at St. Moritz and one at either Klosters, St. Anton or Innsbruck. At the end there'd be a drive to the Ring and a drop off of the car in Frankfurt. 2. Memorial Day week Grand Prix trip. This would be an 11 day, 11 country trip through the alps down to Monaco for the Grand Prix on that Sunday (May 26). Then on to Northern Spain, Paris, Omaha Beach, through Belgium & Luxembourg and again, ending at the Ring and dropping off in Frankfurt. The Ski trip would allow me to get home and have my new car maybe only a month after the end of the lease. The Grand Prix trip would require extending my lease longer and waiting longer. Both the Grand Prix and Skiing in Europe are bucket list items. Part of me tells me it will be easier to get back to the Grand Prix than to the skiing. Vote in the poll and chime in with your opinion. Ready, set, GO!

The Grand Prix trip. Then again, skiing's not really my thing, so it wasn't a difficult choice.

I love Skiing and that would be really tempting but when it comes to a Euro Delivery where I am driving my car on foreign roads I'd have to go with summer. The whole winter tires / snow chains stuff sounds like a pain and more chance of having an accident.

I am seriously considering that aspect. Though if I went winter I'd order with the all season and bring my Autosocks- a fabric devices that replaces chains and works as well as chains in my experience. They're 100x easier to use than chains. They're also designed and made in the EU and as far as I've read legal there. But yea the whole winter thing is a big issue.

I'm a big skiier, but thematically, it just doesn't work. Also remember, this will be the ONLY time you will EVERY drive your car in Europe, so make it count for that. I say don't dilute it with skiing. You can have a ski trip to Europe any year, and do it by rental car. I would be spending time doing the best roads as defined by Top Gear
Also, as I recall, some routes are closed during the winter and the only way through is by train - think it was to Zermatt for one. I also recall that there's a great road over Mont Blanc... but there are probably a ton of great mountain roads, which you can't drive in the winter.

That last one gave me goose bumps when I first saw that episode... here it is without the obnoxious music in original form...

I'm planning a 15-16 day 6 country trip in the spring. Germany, Austria, Poland, Switzerland, Italy, France. Should be roughly 2-3 days per city with drive time ranging from 2.5 to 5.5 hours. Just need to find the right vehicle price...
