Buy first year prod or wait?
At the odd chance that this hasn't been discussed to death already,
Will you buy first year production car? Theres a chance BMW will upgrade the 335 like the 330 and the 525. Ofcourse it's all speculation but i had expected a better perf boost for f30 335, well it's actually not even a boost when reviews are saying its slower than n54 e90. I am disappointed yet I waaaant f30! Can't decide if I should wait.

I bought a E90 330i 6MT in may 2005 when it just came out. Great car, no problems. In september 2006 there was the upgraded 335i N54. And so I got that one. No problems, maybe the best car I ever had.
In 2008 I traded the 335i in for a M3 V8. No problems, but a very expensive ride and irl not much faster/better than the 335i. Sometimes even the opposite. I changed the M3 for my current new 5er F10 with N55 engine. No problems, great car, comfy, but it's huge and it drives like that. I also don't like the 8 autobox tbh.... So I have been one of the 'early adapters' for quite a few years now. 330i no problems. 335i N54 no problems, M3 and F10 no problems. All of them first year production cars So I ordered the F30 335i 6MT.(my 9th BMW in a row) I don't see a problem why not. Just do it.® Cheers Robin |

I rather wait a year or so for a more powerful engine than get a car that's slower than the car it replaces. |

We're talking about a bit less than 1.5 years between the 330 and the 335i. I didn't want to wait long even IF I KNEW there was an upcoming 335i at all.... |

On the other hand, you 'll stay with 245BHP from a 2.0 litre I4 and I with a 306BHP 3.0 I6. So what's the fuzz. 340i could behaving 320BHP. Fine with me. You can tune your N20, I can tune my N55 blablabla Etc etc etc. until it's the year 2112 But hey, I just want a six cylinder that's all. And the N55 is a very very good engine in my current F10. Maybe 98% from what the N54 was and could achieve/do. So I 'know' what I 'm getting I guess. |

Have always had 1st year production cars, rather impatient, but no regrets. Admittedly all had minor recalls, but nothing major. Well other than the first TT in 99 when it had to be sent back to Germany, but they loaned me a car for the duration.

I've already ordered a 2012 328i. This is my second "1st year" car in a row; the first was a 2007 Infiniti G35 that has been very reliable, other than replacing one wheel hub and bearing recently. It never measured up to my 2002 325i, though.

Here are some of the rumour/reports I've gathered about future updates to F30.
1) More paint options (ie. mineral white - which I personally think is much nicer than alpine, especially if white paint is a 'must' for you) 2) 335i engine upgrade to the software updated N55 version as in the 640i (hp-315/torque-330ish) There will be loads of other changes but I think the above two, personally, are good enough reason to wait. Especially if you're like me and don't have money to switch cars every years unlike some people. I'm planning on driving this one to its grave haha.. and I'm thrilled just thinking about it! |

It's funny how you say you're planning in driving it to the grave.... That's what I said about my e90 when I first got it, and here I am today thinking about f30

You drive a '73 Interceptor? FANTASTIC!
I came across this the other day via a friend of mine, enjoy: http://www.classicdriver.de/uk/magaz...0.asp?id=15726 Yeah, but no thanx. Beautiful car with a beautiful engine but it's way too heavy/huge for me. 991S anytime or better a 458 +FF for the wife and two bigger kids. . But the money |

It's smooth and fast, but I've always had/driven manual boxes(except my old man's Benz 300d more than 20 years ago) .
I chose the 8AT because my salesman said it suits the F10 535i better(and I agreed and stil agree) , but it doesnt have any 'emotion' or involvement AT ALL. From a standstill it sometimes hesitates for a nanosecond or so, also tractionproblems(which are normal for such a rwd but still) in wetter conditions I know, which you can solve with a manual box by playing with the gas and clutch a bit, a thing I was used doing for 23 years of driving manual boxes. It's irritating sometimes, and I said to myself: Next time back to a manual transmission. Quote:
I want more feel with the car, that's why I'm switrching back to a 3er. Last edited by Robin_NL; 02-07-2012 at 04:48 AM.. |
