Last chance to add Enhanced bluetooth & USB

[EDIT:] Added. Still in 112(?) status, so not locked in yet. Salesman met me half way, got it for $625.

All,

My order was placed the other day, and I can probably add the enhanced bluetooth with USB, but I am not really sure that i need to.

I have read up on this forum regarding what you get with it and how the car works as is without it. I do not care much for the streaming bluetooth from my phone, as I won't do that often enough to justify it. Also, I don't care much for the BMW safety connect. My primary concern is ipod use. I have a 4th generation ipod nano, and I just want to make sure that it will work fine in the car, albeit with the y-adapter cable. I don't care if I cannot get album art, I just want to be able to control the track currently playing using the iDrive system. I mostly listen to podcasts that I sync up weekly.

As long as I can control the ipod without having to open the compartment to fuss with it each time I start the car, that would be great.

Any reason why I would need to upgrade and spend the $650? Today is probably my last chance to change the order.

Thanks in advance for any comments.

Absolutely add it!!!! Way safer for driving and when it comes time to sell, some buyers won't even look twice at a car withou it.

Also, excited that the newest ipods can do bluetooth, which may come in handy if I want to get one to replace my older one at some point.

Don't you have a cell phone? The convenience that the Bluetooth adds for it is incredible.

Yes, I currently have a Droid Razr. Periodically I stream Audible audiobooks or shoutcasts.

Is there really anything besides the streaming audio that you get with this option?

You get BMW Assist for 4 years. The convenience of BT for phone calls cannot be understated. I literally push two buttons on my steering wheel to make a call home. Very safe, no fumbling with the phone.

Yes, but making phone calls via bluetooth is already a standard feature.

Not sure about the U.S., but here in Germany you have to order with the new configurations after the spring update measures. That means 'bluetooth and USB' is standard. The new enhanced bluetooth/usb/phone option is different from the ones before. Check out my post here:

http://www.f30post.com/forums/showpo...&postcount=131

I called BMW Munich again today and they told me, that the new option is necessary to control iPod/iPhone. Without this it wouldn't work, not even with a y-cable. Not sure if that's true.

I have the same question that Jeff has. Is the enhanced BT an option that offers additional value given that BT for phone calls is already standard and so is the aux switch if you want to stream?

Yep, I forgot it was now standard beginning with MY2013 cars. Having BMW Assist for 4 years is nice piece-of-mind.

Looks like you've got your car loaded up pretty nicely.. the wait is gonna be tough

The Aux port should be on all cars for plugging into a phone/DMP. What you get with Enhanced Bluetooth is the A2DP profile which allows for control (track skip, etc) over Bluetooth streaming.

I personally feel audio is best streamed over the USB port, anyways.

Or you could save the money and have it coded if you have the 6NH option on your Vehicle Order. It was coded for free for me by a kind fellow BB'er and it saved me ~1100 dollars (here in Canada Enhanced Bluetooth and USB has to be bundled with BMW assist for a total cost of 1100 I believe). Check your VO and skip out on the option if you can, it's a nice way to save some money.

I was sort of wondering just what enhanced bluetooth is also.

I just use my phone to make/receive calls in the car. In my car, I can add the contacts from the phone to the car's contact list, and I do actually know most of my most frequently dialed numbers. (I know that may not be the case much any more as often folks never even see their friends/family's phone numbers. And I have plenty of contacts for whom I'm in that predicament. But most of the folks I would call from the car have the same phone numbers they had before the advent of cell phones, so I do actually still know their numbers.)

If I am calling someone I know, I generally just use the voice dialing feature. One button push.

I think the "enhanced" blue tooth in the BMW assist package (that you get in the US models for ~$650) does several things:

1. Let you have 2 bluetooth phones synced up at the same time. Can receive calls from either phone but can only use bluetooth to call out from one phone.

2. Allows for bluetooth streaming of audio

3. Lets you control iOS (iphone, ipod touch) device musci files from iDrive, and all you have to do is connect the device to the USB port (don't need a y-cable)

4. Allows for album art via USB thumbdrive mp3's and also iDevice mp3's, I think.

I guess no. 3 and 4 features are not actually related to bluetooth function, but nonetheless I think you can't do them unless you have the BMW Assist with enhanced bluetooth package.

^ This list is exactly what I was also thinking. There is another thread around here that lays all of this out.

Just one minor comment, I have read that album art is only available with the larger screen that is included with the nav system. No nav? No album art. I can confirm this when my car arrives, if it is still not settled by then.

A user in a German forum who hast just gotten his car says that album art from iPhone/iPod definitely works without Nav (he has extended Bluetooth,... but no nav). However, he has a 2012 built car and not a MY2013 one. With the slightly changed options now nobody knows for sure. BMW Munich told me on the phone, that the Nav. Prof. is required because of the larger screen. That makes no sense to me since it worked before.

I ordered without Nav as well and can't wait to see if album art is working. My car arrives in April. When do you get yours?

What's the option code with/without enhanced bluetooth? Some folks seems to be coding (on their own) from basic bluetooth to enhance bluetooth, specifically, from 6NH to 6NK?

Yea, no problem. As soon as I get home with it, I'll try to remember to post my findings on various things, including this one.
