Snap, whenever I choose alloys I think "how easy will they be to clean?". The standard alloys on the Luxury Line would have driven me mad

IMO the 19" are easier to clean, due to the inner rim being less visible. On the M Sport 18's you can clearly see the inner rim, so need to keep this extra surface clean. 19's all the way, set the car apart and as practical.

Saw a Mineral Grey M Sport in the car park today with the 18" wheels. It was dirty (as was mine), and have got to say the 18's look very ordinary when dirty. Mine even though dirty, still look 'special'. That's what you get from machine polished rims.

May all you 19" 'Size Queens' enjoy your extra inch until you kerb, repair, corrode! Oh, and enjoy the extra noise, worse handling and the rough ride! Bless.

You drive into a kerb, your wheels get kurbed, if this driving behaviour is normal to you, then 18's, 17's 16's aren't going to help you, you need those japanese parking whiskers, lol, or steel wheels with plastic 'alloy style' hubcaps........£40 a set from Halfords |

The 19" wheels really set the car off, would have definitely had them if my budget had stretched.
We have the machine polished face on our Golf GTi alloys and so far so good with the car 3 years old in March, just need to look after them and keep the brake dust off every few weeks. |

The two F30s I drove had passive M Sport suspension. One had 18" and the other 19". 18" were better in this comparison on bad roads.

It is absolutely impossible for the ride and handling of 19" and 18" to be exactly the same. Anyone who thinks so or feels this is deluded.

Maybe not exactly, but no significant difference. We have varied road conditions here in NZ and I can honestly say the 19s are perfect. I also have adaptive suspension which may be a factor.

I would suggest that ride improves with smaller wheels, larger tyre walls, handling improves with smaller tyre walls. It therefore (IMHO) unreasonable to expect both to be better with 18' or 19' Can the OP please advise what the dealer response was to the original issue? |

Car is booked in next week to try and remove paint defect from door (without re-spray) under warranty.
Whilst it is in they will also inspect the alloys. They did say that they have seen this issue on 5 series alloys but never on the new 3 series. My gut feeling at the minute is they wont be able to fix the paint defect without a re-spray and they will say that the alloy problem will not be covered under the warranty. |

Hairy Paint: This should be fixable with some gentle massaging. Quote:
Anyway, you're happy with 19", I'm delighted with 18" and have already cited many of the latter's advantages. End of story.
