Frozen grey with M Sport and CR would look great! It's a shame Individual doesn't allow the colors for M Sport.

If you pay for it everything is possible. Here in Belgium they call it 'special request' ;-)

I am willing to bet that when these arrive on the US shore, the M-Sport will have the individual colors as an option. That said, glad they are offering an additional M-Sport-only color; Carbon Black.

Also, Frozen Cashmere Silver is stunning. Also, LOVE Moonstone Metallic.

Honest question: why is it called a coupe if it has 4 full doors?

Why would they separate into the 3/4 series (sedan/coupe) and then make a 4 series 4 door almost immediately? Doesn't make sense.

Must confess that as much of a BMW fan as I am, I am hard pressed to see the point of this particular model. Its basically a more expensive F30 with a less usable backseat. There isn't as much differentiation as there is between the 5 series, and the 6GC which I think is BMW's best looking model today. Anyway, others may feel differently.

The concept doesn't make sense to me either but damn this 4GC looks way better than the 3 series.

Four-door coupé:
A luxury sedan with classic coupé-like proportions. The low roof design reduces back seat passenger access and headroom.[9] The designation was first applied to a low-roof model of the Rover P5 from 1962 until 1973,[10] but was revived by the 1985 Toyota Carina ED, the 1992 Infiniti J30 and finally by the first model 2005 Mercedes-Benz CLS, which stands in Mercedes hierarchy between the E and S class, and has appearance of a classic coupe and sedan. The term was also used partly from marketing reasons. German press accepted concept of four-door coupe and adopted it to similar models from other manufacturers such as 2009 Jaguar XJ.[11][12][13][14] Also, other manufacturers accepted it, producing recent competing models like Volkswagen Passat CC, BMW F12 and even five-door coupe, Audi A7.[15] The organization ADAC on its website also adopted this concepts.[16] In Germany the definition of the coupe was finally divided into the classic coupe and 4-door coupe. This definition and concept of four-door coupe (instead of sedan) are evident in Germany, but they are not yet widely known in the rest of the world.

It's called a coupe because somewhere along the line, the marketers got together with the bean counters and figured out that customers would pay more for a car with coupe in the name

Seriously though, I think the differences between this car and the F30 will be more apparent in person. The differences are subtle in photos, but IIRC, the 4GC is about 1.5" (around 40mm) shorter than the F30. That might not sound like much, but it will be noticeable in person.

The idea behind these "four door coupes" (barf!) is that they fill a gap in the line up. There are a segment of consumers who are slightly less practically oriented -- they'll give up a couple of inches of headroom -- and more aesthetically oriented. This car is designed to capture that buyer. There's also the matter of status. I guarantee you that BMW marketing for the 4GC will target status, even if the car itself isn't much more expensive than the F30. What matters is perception.

I'm not saying I approve of any of this, but this is how the game is played.

There are definite differences. Have a look at the F30, F32 comparo thread. A couple of things that I think are going to be far more obvious in person:
  • The lower height
  • The larger fender flares
  • The wider front with more aggresive aero

I think when you look at these two cars next to each other in a showroom, the questions will fade away.

I definitely think that some people are still going to prefer the F30 though. The F30 follows more traditional 3-box-sedan styling cues, which is still a very handsome car.

If you go back into car history you will learn that the word 'coupe' means 'cut' in french. And does not mean '2 door' car... It means a sportier version of a normal car. It's because most car manufacturers call their 2 door versions coupe the last decades that ppl now don't understand this anymore....

In some sense it is more usable having a hatch style trunk. With the rear seats folded down, there is a lot of cargo room. Not everyone wants to drive an SAV.

Considering the origin of the word, coupé, and that the roof line is lower than that of the "sedan", I think it's fitting. Though, it does go against what we've come to associate with the word - a 2 door car.

Origin:
1825–35; < French coupé (in defs. 1 and 2 short for carrosse coupé cut (i.e., shortened) coach), past participle of couper to cut off, verbal derivative of coup coup; cf. cope1

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/coupe?s=t

Even the word sedan doesn't really mean 4 doors.

Ditto that! Hope this means the 2 door coupe will also get these options this summer.

So I don't think it looks as good in the online visualizer... :-/ I just put together the package I have on my 435 and it just looks bleh on the GranCoupe. However, I think the best color combo is Carbon Black/ Ivory White.
