Horn when removing airbag from steering wheel

Hello. I am trying to remove the steering wheel in an F30.
Is the horn supposed to blast when you insert the screwdriver into the holes under the steering wheel to bend the spring clips holding in the airbag?

When you insert the screwdriver; you are pulling the airbag backwards by moving the spring clip; in other words compressing the connectors for the horn.

Yes; it will sound when you do that.

Pull the fuse first so you don't have any airbag accidents.

Should disconnect the battery when working on SRS components.

You should be disconnecting the Battery any time your removing or working with or around an Airbag system. Things go boom!!

I will disconnect the battery next time. I just wanted to make sure it was not shorting out or something else because just touching the screwdriver against the clip or something near it caused the horn to blast which I thought was odd.

Nothing is more surprising than an airbag going off in your face because you didn't disconnect the battery first...

Side benefit - horn doesn't beep when you take airbag out

The horn is a contact switch configuration. You are completing the circuit with the screwdriver- Result- "HONK"
