You are right on the availability, although I was just at my Audi dealership and test drove a 2013 S4, they had 3 on the lot! They are not as rare as they used to be (previous gen when the S4 did sort of compete with an M3) but Audi dealers try to make them sound like they are! I can't stand Audi dealers for that reason, all over the world they don't discount, trying to get 3% off is like pulling teeth with them, 5% and they will laugh at you and tell you about how awesome their brand is and its the best Luxury car brand out there (I guess they don't read the actual statistics on sales though). I really like the A4 and S4 but not sure I am willing to deal with Audi
You might be right in assessing motoring enthusiasts choices of cars, but I will say one of my coworkers traded in his S4 for an Infiniti G37 last year. If you want strange, my former neighbor told me he bought his 2008 335i instead of the 328i because he wanted the V6.

I don't like Audi customer service as much as BMW. I took ED on my 2009 e90 and was very happy, when I went with my mom last year when she took ED on her A4 I wasn't very impressed. Also, my car dealer sells both Audi and BMW and I've always been treated better by the BMW reps, though that could be due to staff idiosyncrasies more than corporate policy.

Bone stock vs. bone stock the S4 smokes the F30 335i off the line and from a 5mph roll.

Heck the n54 335is smoke the F30 N55 335i.

The F30 335i is not all that much quicker than an F30 328i...

This will change when BMW upgrades the 335i with either the N54 set up in the current E92 335is coupe...or some other set up.

But until BMW really and truly comes out with the next evolution for the 335i (which current F30 335i with N55 is not)....you will not be able to face the S4 at the line with confidence.

That is the test...if you cannot line up with confidence...other "feelings" do not matter.
I researched this. I looked an insideline test on a 2007 E90 335i 6 speed AT. Here are the numbers compared to the 2012 335i 8 speed AT

2007 0-60 4.9 sec
2012 0-60 4.7 sec

2007 1/4 mile 13.4 sec
2012 1/4 mile 13.3 sec

2007 skipad .90g
2012 skipad .90g

Pretty similiar. Just thought the feedback would be healthy

It's not people making a mistake, it's Audi giving up the game.

The S4 used to be the M3 competitor. Now that it's not even a contest, people started comparing the S4 to the 335 to be more charitable. Audi's not "doing a better job differentiating", they are bringing the RS4 to the US finally, in order to compete.

The 335is of course is faster than the N55 335i.
The 335is has more power because BMW tuned it to have more power and bumped up the boost.
It's obvious.

The 335i is not that much quicker than the 328i?
Are you kidding?
If you accept that, then why harp on the 335i against the S4?
F30 335i 4.7 to 60. S4 4.4. That's a .3 sec difference.

F30 328i 5.6, F30 335i 4.7. That's nearly 1 second.

You seem to change your definitions of what is fast depending on what point you need to make.

The N55 is the next gen. turbo. It's quite modern.
BMW can give it more power, and maybe they will.
But it's not likely they will go back to the older tech N54.
They'll just tune the N55 for more power.
The PPK will be available this fall.
It should have been part of the Msport, but maybe it will be once the PPK comes out.

Main reason I'll never go near Audi (or Lexus) ever again - some very bad personal experiences with these dealers in the past.

Never owned a S4 but had an A4. Worst car I ever owned. Always in for repairs. Even the service manager at the dealership told me to sell the car. Audi North America was terrible to deal with. One manufacturer on my 'never again' list.

Aren't the residuals for leasing better on the Audi's than the BMW's? All I know is that it seems tough to find any leasing deals/inventory for most Audi's (w/ exception of A3) whenever I looked. Seems as if you have to go to the dealer website to find any deals and none are shown on AUDI USA website.

Test-drove the 335i w/ sport auto and was sold. I also like the revised interior of the F30 and more tauter/aggressive styling. The S4 doesn't differentiate itself too much from the regular A4 in my opinion--w/ the exception of the engine. For .3/.4 sec difference in 0-60? I'll take the BMW-

My wife had a 2007 A4. 3 year lease, never a single issue with it.

Biggest thing with an Audi is that it is AWD. Therefore, it with corner better in the turns unless you buy an xdrive m-sport.

Put down the magazines, and compare an AWD car to a RWD car on the road.

I couldnt agree with you more on all your points. I like the s4 but for .2-.3 tents speed wise Im not going to turn over the keys to my BMW. I have never been the type of guy to jump ship just because the other company has something faster and thats it. I always owned a mustang, when camaros, and trans ams were so much faster, but I didnt care. Mustang was a better car and always will be. (different discussion). Shit the 5.0 GT gives an e92 m3 a run for its $.

Audi customer service does suck. I been on their lots and they sound so dumb, and act like the new Audi's are a god send.

You're also forgetting the Audi weighs at least 300lbs more than the 335i.

I haven't been following the details of the PPK, but reading this made me wonder- is the PPK only going to be available for the 335i M-Sport, or will it also be available for the 335i Sport Line?

I've been poring over Sport vs M-Sport trying to decide between them, and one thing that keeps popping out is the M-Sport has a much larger appearing air intake area. And I remember reading something about M-Sport not offering fog lights in the US, for improved cooling, while the Sport Line has fog lights.

Thanks
Bruce

Based on the offerings currently, it looks like it'll be available for all the lines.

http://www.shopbmwusa.com/ProductLis...=241&perf=true

Basically $850 for an 18hp bump and a 22tq gain in manual cars or 37tq gain in auto cars.

Or spend another $700 (before install) and get an extra water cooler and enhanced cooling fan feature for extreme driving conditions. That just sounds like something good to have in hot climates anyway.

I think it's kind of weak considering most aftermarket companies are offering 3 times the power gains.

My 2006 A4 2.0T didn't have any more of less issues than my E46 325i or my 135i, which is to say, not much at all.
There were a couple of things on all of them, but mechanical things can at times have some issues.
But, that's what warranties are for.

A lot of magazine racing going on in this thread. Both are great cars, and anyone here would be more than happy with either. The s4 feels a little bit quicker after driving both back to back, but not enough to justify a decision one way or the other.

I ended up going with a 2013 s4 (from a 2008 335i) for a number of reasons, but I'm sure I would've been happy in the f30. Instead of quoting magazine stats just go drive them both.
