I am almost positive in 07 I saw a few 300whp dynos.

Yeah the early early n54's were very strong. Mine was built in 06 and was a beast. It's this tranny and gearing that makes this n55 seem quicker I think.

Yea the DCT really works well, until you get to monster wtq figures it’s objectively superior to 6AT and 6MT. As for “early” N54s being different, I’m fairly certain that’s just an urban legend that got legs on the internet. All N54 teardowns I’ve seen (granted, not many) showed a similar setup with cast pistons and forged rods. There’s always been a debate about whether early run N54s were “forged”, but again that seems to be the product of idle speculation. The N54 is a stronger motor than the N55 when you power mod, and is in many ways overbuilt from the factory, my personal guess is that BMWAG over-engineered the hell out of it to make sure their first FI motor in quite some time wasn’t weak at the knees. That’s great for power hungry people, but for a stock motor there is no doubt in my mind that the N55 is superior. More fuel efficient, more civil and quiet, fewer complexities/greater reliability, less oil hungry, and a really nice OE twin scroll. No, it doesn’t flow as well up top, but for people who don’t plan on serious power modding; it’s the better choice. You guys really shouldn’t be worrying about a mid-decade 350z, it’s not in the same zip code of automobile as your F30. There are 10 second Honda Civics that would put bus lengths on my car from a roll, doesn’t mean I spend my days worrying about them

+1. I don't know why so many people talk like the n55 is some weak ass engine. It's an amazing motor and its very powerful. Every journalist in the world thinks that minus a bunch of n55 bashing forum members.

335i owner probably got scared after hitting 70mph.

Also, my old 07 N54 felt noticeably stronger than the N55 in my F30

Different power curve most likely but it might have been. I only say that because I have drove 14 sec cars that feel faster then my F30. I know it's not because I have killed some fast cars.

It's a compliment that people compare dedicated 2 seater sports cars to our 4 door sedans.

This is my first 4 door sedan, and i love the fact that I can compete with some pretty amazing sport cars, and still go on a 1000 mile road trip with a few friends and their luggage, all without requiring back surgery when I get home

I doubt the coupe will be much quicker.. it's embarrassing is what it is. How hard was it to tune the F30 335i to 350hp or thereabouts. BMW was on top of the game in 2007 but now they've slipped back into their old ways.. underpowered compared to competition

Haha, then why does the 335i smoke the competition, all of it, in acceleration in every test?? In acceleration and engine power the F30 n55 and n20 obliterate the competition. How can you not see that? Just because a car claims to have more horsepower or torque does not mean its always faster. Caddy ats 3.6 327 or something, Infiniti g37 330 HP, Lexus IS350 306 HP so on and so forth. The 335i is faster than all of them. Acceleration and power wise it's still not behind the competition. Add a tune and forget it. I do agree however they should have made it at least 330hp. I don't get BMW sometimes.

I agree for now but most of those cars are due for a redesign..and now caddy has a twin turbo v6 400hp.

Yeah sorry this is very much a modded 350z, doesnt even sound close to stock. Even with light mods it wouldnt have pulled like that. I ran a Infiniti G37 (328 hp) and we were neck and neck up to 120mph then I started to pull on him a bit. We both maxed out at 155mph my rev limiter hit. We ran agaon from a roll around 80mph he pulled me about 1/2 a car to 100 and I started to reel him in very slowly.

The comparison doesnt bother me, I mean how many times do you see a jb4 N54 running a lambo or porsche on youtube. Nothing wrong with it, a race is a race.

Also, the 350 has higher gear ratios for a higher top speed. This is why I could take 350's all day with my Altima SE-R. Same motor, same tune, just lower gear ratios for more torque off the line. Thus, this race might have had different outcomes had it started from a stand-still. However, with all of the mods that the 350 had, maybe not. Definitely sounded far from stock in the video...

That looks like it took place somewhere in Miami, and there is a 328i with a similar front plate, same color running around. Im questioning whether the car in the video is actually a 335i
