M cars are built on the same production line as non M cars, the last hand built non production line M car was the E34. So no reason why M cars can't be built anywhere BMW builds anything.

NO！！！！I prefer to choice "Made in Germany", rather than "Made in US", I think that is original problem. So made in Germany is the best for the new generation of F30!

It's very American to care a LOT where stuff I made without looking too much into it. SAfrica made 3ers are rumored to have fewer problems that no one can explain v the German made ones.

Armani has been making clothes in china for a long time with the attitude that so long as they control quality all has been well. Most Vuitton these days is china factory made without the quality control. Many Euro brands will ship to europe and put on a stitch or label to say made in Italy or France just before they ship to the USA. The domestic stuff they sell does not.

Theres no Lexus or Acura in most markets. But tell some fat cat in the US to buy a $100k Toyota. No problem with that in japan.

If I were BMW I would offer a Made in Germany option for the US market and charge a few k more. I'm sure it would sell GREAT! Even on this forum with all the super in touch peeps....

I'd buy USA just because the Euro exchange rate stinks!!

ehhh, the X3, X5 and X6 are all made in the USA and there is no complaint they are suffering in any way. We should all enjoy a few hundred bucks off MSRP (more mod money) and better availability on unique model options/color combos since its in our backyard.

I doubt that all 3 series production would shift to the US plant. It would probably just be spread across multiple plants like it currently is. I'd bet that Euro Delivery would still be an option, but it may not have the same cost savings as it does currently.

How would building BMWs in the US make them 'American' cars? Do you consider the Z3, previous gen Z4, X5, and X6 to be American cars? It was the unions that really plagued GM, Chrysler, and Ford with so many issues. There are a lot of foreign brands building cars in the US that are doing just fine.

I still don't think US assembled cars are up to the same quality as their German equivalents. My wife's x5 is nowhere near the craftmanship of my entry-level 3er; misaligned door, loose homelink buttons, interior rattles/creaks for a car w/ only 4.5k miles so far. The sad part was that I anticipated this and overlook the faults for it's great handling.

If they start 3er production in Spartanburg then it will be to furnish the
North American / Canadian markets and maybe some others within that region.

But the principle manufacturing base for the 3er will be Germany .
Think of it how current 3er production is supported in India , China , Malaysia and South Africa.

I do not think anyone needs to worry about there being any questions with quality when considering BMW moving some of its build operations to the US. BMW will have the factory running just like its German operations, and most likely have many German heads throughout. That is apart of a company's identity! All this will do is show that BMW is making a commitment to the US. I have worked in many specs of the automotive industry, including Toyotas revamp in their Kentucky plant, and they have an unbelievable facility. BMW in my mind is the big boy of quality, so I think this production facility will be phenomenal as well. This will just open up the availability of BMW's to the US automarket, and save BMW money.
I will say that th M Division will not be produced here at all. That is something BMW takes heavy pride in, and they will keep that at one of their facilities within Germany. They produce less M's so it will not be about the bottom line when it comes to shipping them to the US market. Just some thoughts.

for 1 thing its not dodge, and its also not in detroit but i see your point.

I've toured the Chicago Ford Assembly as my buddy's father in law is an electrical engineer manager there. This shit doesn't happen there and there are some shady ass dudes workin down there. I've toured the plant 3-4 times and even the shady looking people were hard at work and nice as can be.

I honestly think this has more to do with the town than the ethnicity. Some americans have a good work ethic.

Sorry man but umm Toyota released the Lexus brand into the world market including Japan a while ago and I have visited a Louis Vuitton factory in Asnieres, France and everything was definitely made there in France.

BTW BMW wouldn't make all F30s in the US but only some depending on allocation and demand, probably how they handle allocation between South Africa and the Germany for the E90.
