400M wheels for winters re-spray?

So I am contemplating putting on my winter set in the next week or so but never keen as I don't think the 400M wheels suit my 440i very well.

Has anyone sprayed them grey or even black to make them look a little better? Good or bad? Any pics?

Never had any wheels every treated before so just curious at the moment.

Not 400's, but I got a spare set of 403's powdercoated in Gunmetal grey/black for my winters.

Used the "wheel Specialists" in Nottingham. this will be the third winter and so far no degradation of the powdercoating, so money well spent.

https://www.thewheelspecialist.co.uk/
Cost about £300 if i remember.

Just checked receipt it was Anthracite Grey that i got, but depending on light the colour does change as below:

Any pictures in this colour?

I have just bought some used 400M wheels with winter tyres and was thinking the same....black or dark grey.

That is Ferric Grey 2, I think the original Ferric Grey must have been an old lead based colour, same as EB & EB2

Mmm that's a tough choice for a dark car. Mine is Carbon Black which is actually dark blue. Not sure black would go or not.

Thanks for the pictures.

Mine is white...and I was thinking black but now think that the Ferric Grey 2 is nicer.

Maybe you could go Orbit Grey or Anthracite Grey. (darker but not black)

They are non OEM but I've just had my winter set powder coated black at a local place. Look so much better.

How do people store their summer wheels?
Ill be swapping mine soon and putting the summer's in the garage. The garage is a bit damp so I'm keen to prep them to store them. There is no corrosion I'm aware of and no damage to the lacquer.

I'm thinking of washing them drying them and spraying with WD40.
Any other ideas?

I put a couple of old thick curtains over them to try and keep them dry. No idea if it makes much difference though!

That looks good. Just need to find a local dealer who can powder coat them in the correct colour.

I wouldn't spray them with WD40. I can't see how that would protect the laquer or do your tyres any good.

I will be putting my winter wheels and tyres on in December and have been on google to see how to store the summer wheels and tyres. It recommends stacking them one on top of the other and covering the tyres to stop the oils in the tyres drying out. I have seen plenty of wheel/tyre covers that are fairly inexpensive. I am going to wash and wax my wheels first and put them in covers before stacking them.

Something like this.

wax the wheels to keep any moisture off the alloy. covers to protect the tyre rubber. seems wise. I'll get some covers and follow this plan. thanks

A local place was doing a deal. They took the existing wheels, removed tyres, powdercoated, fitted my new TPMS valves and balance for £180.

I use one of these to store my Winters/Summers depending on time of year, no weight on the tyres and minimal foot print in the garage as well.

Only prep I do on the wheels for storage is give them a good clean.

Garage List
I just hang the not in use sets on my garage wall.

Bought some hooks from screwfix and wrapped in carpet to protect the lacquer.

Where was that Stu if you don't mind me asking?

I have a set of non-oem 17" winters (I know, I know) which are currently silver but just don't quite cut the mustard next to the 403M's. I think getting them coated anthracite/black would look better against EBII, hide the winter cack and - most importantly - disguise their diametrical inadequacy
