sigh, I love BMWs but shit like this gets me furious. Mechanics are (sometimes) full blown tards and salespeople rarely provide any post-sale support. Unfortunately this is a trend recently.

Good luck OP, hope issue doesnt resurface.

So there was the last word...and then there's this last word.

Last week, shortly after my post...I found there was a static/something loose sound emanating from the front passenger side. I thought I was going crazy because it would appear and then disappear.

After a few days and a friend confirming the sound...I drove it right into the dealership and said there was something wrong.

Went out for a drive with a technician who was pretty awesome in trying to find the problem.

MURPHY's law kicked in - SOUND never appeared in 20 mins of driving!!! Either way, he fiddled around with some sections of plastic.

I then started asking him about the sound quality - he fiddled around with the Y-cable and the aux cable. I booked another appointment and he assured me he would get to the bottom of it.

Dropped it off this morning. Picked it up this afternoon.

Turns out - the main issue was a faulty Y-cable. THey also replaced the aux-usb jack just as a precaution.

And what have I discovered? Sound is marginally better than what I recall it being. Much thanks to the technician for figuring all this out. The static noise thing I kept on hearing was probably caused by the Y-cable and aux jack too because it hasn't come back!

So to FINALLY (hopefully) conclude this saga....

The sound is definitely worse than the old E90 system but still much better than it was when I first go the F30. Thank god.

This is really a pointless thread because my issue wasn't 100% resolved but I'd like to point out that there are good people out there in the BMW world who actually give a shit and will take the time to figure out what's wrong. Much thanks and props to Dave Lee at Parkview BMW for his help.

Is this for the hifi system or stock?

He must have been DEAF b/c it sounded like SH*T. Then he goes to get a loaner car (320i)...I tell him the sound in there is gonna be even worse. GO FIGURE, he listens and says..."it sounds worse in here".

he ended up telling me I was basically up sh*ts creek because they tried everything they could to find out if there was a problem and couldn't come up with anything wrong.

I was tired of arguing so I decided to take the car back and talk to my sales guy and after sales guy again at a later time.

2) While driving I couldn't believe how bad and unbalanced the sound was. Keep in mind, I was using my ipod and BMW Y-cable. At one point while driving home, I was reaching inside the arm rest storage area to grab something. I must have jostled the Y-cable and BOOOOOOM!!!! Normal, SOUND!! I literally pulled over into a plaza and started fiddling around.

Turns out the AUX jack was acting up...every time I would rotate the male connector of the Y-Cable, the sound would cut in and out. The sound would go from SHITTY to "normal".

Took out the AUX male connector and put it back in. Doing this must have made something tighter because the AUX jack isn't acting up anymore.

So... to sum up:
- the mechanics and other guys at service are clearly DEAF or didn't even bother to check it out for real. Even the after-sales guy was siding with me saying something wasn't right.
- 48 hours in the shop. They couldn't figure it out.
- Turns out the aux jack was f-ed up.
- Sound is much better now. But in my humble opinion, this stereo in the F30 still sounds like crap in comparison to my previously owned 328xiT, Z4 and X5. Such a disappointment in an otherwise great car.

-------------

I mostly listen to prog-house, jazz and rock. Jazz and rock = no problems. The prog-house with booming base is where the trouble is. I've been fiddling around with the EQ in the car and have come up with the following solution...(to my ears at least)

iPod - EQ set at Dance mode. I know ppl say to have the EQ setting at "none" for in-car use but I find that using this is better than not. It just gives a more balanced sound in my opinion.

Then in the EQ settings in the car:
Treble - 3 notches above mid
Bass - 1 notch above mid
Balance - middle
Fade: Rear biased (about 3/4 to the rear)...I find this makes the sound more equal through out the car and reduces the massive and flabby bass. I've never, EVER had to do this. If it's in the middle, it just sounds like a wall of sound coming from the front of the car (probably due to the front console speaker) and nothing from the back.
Yes you are 100% right , I have recently bought used 2014 328d and it sounds very horrible and I came from Audi where I enjoyed premium like audiophile sound quality even in very low volume and here with bmw hi fi sound ,I am very disappointed thanks

call Audiofrog and speak with Andy or Gary, both guys have tons of experience with BMW. and Andy was the head guy at JBL, Replace all your speakers, add two small 4 channel amps in the trunk where the hk amp used to be. add one 10 in the middle of the trunks fishtank, and call it complete. I have lots of pics up if interested..
