Extended warranty

Just put my car into service a few weeks ago. Dealership offered me a 36 month extended warranty provided from Allianz.

Quote was 3839.00.

Anyone have any experience with the extended warranty? Do you guys think its worthwhile?

I did it on my previous Audi A4 - like any insurance you need to decide for your self if it is worth it.

I think price quoted is way too high though. Check out http://www.extendednewcarwarranty.com.au/ and get a quote from them - from memory I paid about $2400 for 3 years Allianz on a fully loaded Audi a4 Quattro

Anything below $3000 is a good price. I was quoted $3500 by BMW for a 328i. Ended up negotiating it in with my new car purchase.

I did some digging, and it seems in the US people pay around $ 3000 USD.

I forgot to say my car has 22000 kms on it already. Although it is basically brand new. I don't know if the dealership would negotiate as I am not planning to make a purchase soon

Thanks for the suggestion btw! I want to believe nothing will happen to my car, but who knows right? Does seem my quote is quite high.

whens your factory warranty running out ? maybe revisit the idea closer to that time if you still have a year or 2 to go.

My 3 year warranty is up in August so I'll be looking at one and two year options. Will post up what the quotes are when I get my 45000km service done next week.

AFAIK there's a extended warranty and extended service option you can buy.

Like I said get a price from the website in my earlier post ( I am not affiliated)
My Audi dealer could price match it - exactly the same product.

I would also look at Swann Insurance - the benefit with them (or at least it used to be) is that if you dispose of the vehicle before the warranty has run out you can get a pro-rate refund.

I have had both Allianz and Swann - made claims on both and seemed OK.

Just spoke to one of the reps from the website for a 36 month extended warranty, was given two choices:

Allianz 36 month, 75000 km $2864
TWG 36 month, unlimited kms $2164

Not bad pricing I would say, considering dealer pricing starts at 3k.

The extended service has to be purchased on a new vehicle, or atleast 12 months from date of delivery? Maybe I am thinking about a different service option?

.
Out of interest, for Swann, did they allocate a service centre, or were you allowed to use a BMW service centre?

Also note that BMW New car extended warranty also provides BMW Roadside Assistance and Accident Management. Dont think Allianz new car warranty has the equivalent, but you may want to check.

Post Quotes

So I got a few quotes from the site suggested by pmunger and also for Swann from here:
http://www.warrantyandinsurance.com....anty-insurance

So the quote from the site suggested by pmunger was as follows:

36 months Unlimited Extended VSC from TWG for $2175

36 months 75,000klm New Vehicle Warranty from Allianz for $2863

36 months 200,000klm Platinum from Avea for $1875

The website that had Swann gave me these following quotes:

Swann Warranty Assist: (100,000klm limit)
3 year - Discounted price $2620

Swann Warranty Assist: (200,000klm limit)
4 year - Discounted price $3435

Allianz New Vehicle Warranty (25,000 extra klms per year)
3 year - Discounted price $3840

The price difference for Allianz quoted by both intermediaries is interesting.

Anyhow, this is all I got currently. The woman I spoke to regarding Swann said the plan she quoted me was being discontinued this week, so if I wanted it I need to pay now.

Great info ruler06, thank you.
I would say the woman from Swann is just using that as a sales tactic.
Couple of questions; this is for warranty only, correct? This does not extend the roadside assist?
Do these warranties cover all of the car (not just drive train for example)?
Also, what is VSC?

No worries, glad I can help! I agree with you, the policy being taken off the market is most likely a sales tactic.

These quoted prices are for warranty only. Allianz does not offer road side assist with their extended warranty (at least that is what I was led to believe). For Swann, roadside assist will be around $200 extra (quoted by the woman from Swann's intermediary). I am personally not expecting such a young BMW to break down on the road... but who knows right?

These warranties cover whatever the manufacturer warranty covered. It does not cover anything that the manufacturer warranty is still covering though. So an example is if BMW covered paint for 10 years, this warranty would not cover paint, but will cover other parts such as ECM that was under the manufacturer warranty but has now expired.

VSC is a company name. Virginia Surety Company. Never heard of them before so somewhat reluctant.
