Went to the dealership. They checked but could not find out a value for top speed. They could only give values found from real time diagnostics of the car.

Won't work. Car will easily run to the speed limiter in most cases. If the speed limiter is coded out car will most likely run to red line in top gear where the red line limiter will cut it off.
On a chassis dyno the car is not moving any air its just sitting in a shop. With no air resistance drag the number will not be the same as the drag number on the road.

If the car came with all season tires it?s 130 if it?s Sportline/m sport with summer tires it would be 155.

OP wasn't asking what's the max speed he can theoretically get to with his car. OP wanted to know if his car is limited to either 130 or 155mph. Testing it on a dyno would do just that.

VIN does not show S840A (High speed syncronisation). Apparently, this option is needed for the 155 mph top speed limit. However, there maybe cars without this option that go all the way to 155 mph. Dealer says 155 mph. Says they got that information from BMW. Hence, needed a way to check whether it is 130 mph or 155 mph. |

There are folks out there who have M Sport and summer performance tires but are limited to 130 mph. Check out http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1035738 and http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho....php?t=1053113. |

Have been in touch with BMW and the information received was that option S840A is only for US manufactured vehicles. In this case, it is the B46 engines for the 330i. Elsewhere, we have the B48 engines for the 330i, which are coded for 155 mph and these do not have the S840A option.
BMW has also suggested that they can remotely check through coding software for the top speed in my car. Nice of them. Will be visiting the dealership shortly. |

Verified that the car can hit 250 kph (155 mph) by checking out the VMAX value. Couple of points that are of interest are given below.
US region - In order to have 250 kph (155 mph) as the speed limit, you need to have option S840A in your decoded VIN. Otherwise you are limited to 210 kph (130 mph). In the case of 330i, the US region uses the B46 engine. Other regions - Option S840A is not needed. The car is already coded for 250 kph (155 mph) as the top speed. In the case of 330i, the other regions use the B48 engine. Thanks for all the inputs, guys. |

I think you need a flash tune to remove that limiter.. which still doesnt exist yet for the B's BTW the theo top speed for the 330i = 159 mph but it would take you ail over a minute to get there w/ the B48 Last edited by insanecoder; 11-07-2017 at 06:35 PM.. |

any 3 series with the sport suspension, since at least the inception of the F30 in 2012 is limited to 155. Non sport is 130. Simple as that

There are 3 Series cars with the M Sport package and standard suspension that hit 250 kph (155 mph). It's different for different markets. |
