I don't know, but I do know that if BMW keeps adding length and weight to all their models, they will "whale out". The F10 is 5 inches and several hundred pounds heavier than my old E39. The F30 apparently will be bigger than the E90 (and heavier?). This in the face of increasing gas mileage requirements in the U.S. Don't tell us about turbo fours. BMWs are made to be driven and if you keep your foot in a turbo it will suck gas.
Stop the pig out, BMW. |

I voted yes because no matter what car enthusiast say, this car will meet the needs of other normal consumers. Which is, you gotto to admitt, they are in larger numbers
And those people prefer bigger interior space. So BMW will have to answer this by increasing the length of the 3 series and thus gaining mass. But I dont think it will be slower then a e90 335i ( N54 Unchipped) because of the new transmission. It would most probably be a 8 speed auto or a 7 DCT which will a big improvement on the 6AT ZF auto. Not that the current 6 speed auto is bad but the replacement gear box will have shorter gear ratio thus helping in acceleration.

At the rate BMW is going with continuing to increase the size of each series, the X5 will be H3 soon and the 7 will offer 3rd row seating. What are they going to do when the 1 series is the size of our current 3? New 0.5 series?

The Euro pedestrian crash regs are going to force ever blunter front-ends, compromising styling in even worse ways than 5 mph bumpers did.
CAFE requirements means the powerful engines will become an increasingly expensive option. It'll probably be bigger and heavier |

BMW knows what they're doing, we doubt them now and when it comes out we will love it, I'm amped and can't wait to drive one.

Well the new A3 will probably grow to the old B6 A4 size while the next 1 series grow to E46 size.

Everyone says this about any new car that is coming to replace what they have. We all know overall it wil be a better car but most people will never admit it. What they have is the best anything else isnt quite as good. Look around e46 forums and they say the same thing about and e90 and e30 owners say the same about the e46. It just goes on and on and is the same attitude over and over again and its starting to just get annoying.

We can specualte all day but IMO the only things almost certain are:
1. It will be bigger 2. It weigh the same or heavier 3. Model for model it will be faster in a straight line and be more fuel efficient 4. It will cost the same or be slightly more expensive. 5. It will have a better interior. Things not so certain: 1. Will BMW continue their recent trend of leaning more towards comfort/luxury in their new models at the expense of ultimate driving dynamics. 2. Will the new car be better with the 3G RFT than the E90 with current RFT (i have no doubt the F30 will use them) 3. I believe there will be much more technology available on the F30 such as HUD, adaptive dampers (like in the M3) but you will have to pay to play, those of us wanting a sporting drive as opposed to comfort will have to pony up for this technology - it will not be standard and may still come up short in the fun stakes compared to E9X. Just my thoughts. |
