Runflat repair kit or space saver option

Hi all,

Has anyone any experience with the foam repair kits for run flats ?

Or does anyone carry a space saver in the boot. Is this worth considering to potentially save the punctured tyre so a repair can be more reliable due to not effecting the side wall strength after any continued driving?

I'm contemplating the same decision, fix a flat and compressor, spare tire and jack, or nothing (drive on RFT.)

I used compressor and goop once I got rid of those evil RFT. Had to use it a couple of times and it was great. Contrary to popular belief here, mechanic don't seem to have a problem with that stuff.

What was the name of the product.

Did the tyre still have a permanent repair or did the foam repair last indefinitely?

It should still have a permanent repair removing all the gunk from the spray kit and then a rebalance.

If the process is as straight forward as using the SOS type foam prior to a permanent repair at your local tyre centre ..I don't understand why people come away from the run Flats recommended by BMW!!

I have a plug kit and an air compressor in the trunk, and I'm going to try and find a scissor jack that fits the jack points.

I just picked up my 328d a week and a half ago, so I've been running runflats for a week and a half!!

I had a mini cooper before that, but the base model actually comes with a spare and non runflats.

This is all new to me. Currently I have a can of slime and a compressor in the car.

You can order the bmw jack, its pretty cheap.

I'd guess the reason some people decide to abandon the run flats on the first replacement cycle boils down to one thing: performance. Recently, I ran across a guy who has done a lot of tire testing on BMWs. His advice to me (for my 435 M Sport) was to ditch the RF's ASAP and replace them with Michelin Pilot SS's. He said from his experience, it would handle like a whole different car. I figure I'll just pack a small compressor and a can of slime in the trunk in case I get a flat.

I got rid of them because the ride was so harsh and as said above, I think it handed way better. My car was leased so I took RFT off about 1000 kms in and remounted them when i gave the car back. Way better car on regular tires imo.
BMW recommends them as a safety/weight saving/space saving thing.

Yea if that gunk settles it throws balance off like crazy. Been there done that..........

I think I might start looking for regular winter tyres then instead of run flats over the next week or so!!

No jack, no space saver just gunk and compressor. Isnt that what we have been talking about?

Yeah.....A mate at work reckons it can damage the alloys but how true it is I'm not sure.
