I believe I read it somewhere in this forum (but can't find it), but this method works 100% of the time!

I see lots of comments on how you kick, or kick/retract and all other kinds of goodies, but none of this makes a difference. The trick is there are TWO sensors, one for your foot, and the other detecting whether or not you are close to the bumper and, therefore, may be hit in the head by the incredibly dangerous slow moving opening of the trunk.

Solution: LEAN BACK!

If you lean back..or even come in from the side (if your car is backed up near a wall), just kick anywhere under the centre of the rear bumper and, as long as it thinks your head is not in the danger zone it will open.

try it..even trying exaggerating your lean back and you will see that no matter how you kick, it is the distance the rest of your body is from that second sensor that counts.

...</two cents>...</feel better now>

Works for me maybe 25% of the time.

Fast kicks
Slow kicks
Center
Off to the right
2, 3, 4, 5, doesnt matter.

How far back from the car do I need to be?

Where do I need to kick?

Feels like a waste, since the times I need it, I end up putting my stuff down and opening the trunk by hand!

Geez...keyfob. Button. Push trunk button. Trunk opens. Load trunk. Close trunk. Much happiness.

i need to unlock my car and get the car "whirring" and then the comfort access works.

almost seems like my battery is cutting off or something...
door handle works its just the trunk kicking...very weird.

So, this is still a thing? Works 100% of the time for me. Foot centered, kick HIGH as in almost touching the bottom edge of the bumper. Quick in/out motion.

Works. Every. Single. Time.

the kicking part works for me, but the spring is not strong enough to open the trunk.

I told the dealer they need to change the spring setting - they claim there is no setting (4 series)

does anyone else have problems with the trunk not popping open (only unlocking and then you have to manually raise)?

This has been discussed many times before. If you open up the boot lining up near the springs you will see you can move the springs to different notch therefore making the spring in more tension.

Have a look it is easy to get to and easy to fix.

Love this feature! I use it multiple times a week when loading my hockey equipment.. Don't know how I ever survived without it. Also doesn't seem to be affected by snow or road grime.

Does not work at all for me; spent 20 minutes with a BMW genius who then called over two sales rep and still could not get it to work. I think the factory-installed diffuser might be blocking the sensor. They said to mention it to a SA when I bring it for the 1,200 mile service.

Hey guys,

Just picked up a wagon with Comfort Access. When I try to use the hands free trunk action it unlocks, brake lights flash and it tries to open but does not. The motor works once I manually open the trunk, also the hatch closes when I push the close button

Does it sound like I have the motion right, but there is an issue elsewhere in the process?

Many thanks! The backward pull works perfectly for me. I had a lot of trouble before. Amazing how a simple instruction makes something work.

If you are seeing the brake lights flash, it's working but might be "sticking". It's happened to me once and all I did to fix it was clean the trunk seals.
