Servicing Costs
Hi,
just wondering what members have paid for their first service on their F30 330d xDrive? I called Stratstone today to enquire on costings but were told they couldn't as it is a condition based service and could vary significantly depending on how I have driven it? I thought this service was just an oil change and perhaps a brake fluid change but what else could need replacing if I have thrashed the car? I asked the question and he couldn't tell me? He was adamant not to give me an estimated cost. Perhaps my pollen filters would changing due the excessive speed I drive my car at? I was only enquiring because I live half way between Stratstone BMW and Sytner BMW so just interested to see if they charge the same. So if I have driven the car hard, other than brakes and tyres what else would they need to change? Surely they have to provide a basic price structure? Stratstone did say as soon as the car is with them and booked in they will take a key reading and be able to quote me. So it seems that BMW can charge you what they want once the vehicle is taken from you and driven a away? Also, with my previous E90 330d and my Porsche Boxster S I used to take the oil in with me on a service to save a little on the cost and ensure they put decent oil in? Does anyone still do this? I used to buy from Costco and was significantly cheaper than their oil prices but didn't bother when I had my dreadful F10 520d SE for 18 months. Any thought would be appreciated. Dickie |

Ouch. Service pack at £425 is a no brainier. I booked mine in at 17k so should get 3 under the pack plus MOT protect for year 4.

Not sure what the dealer is trying to tell you... There is some truth in their comment, if you've no idea what the car requires. If it is for example, an oil service, brake fluid change and pollen filter, they should know what that costs. HighlandPete |

I always supply my own oil, it's roughly a third of the price that bmw charge. An oil change (which is the first service) should be no more than £120 including a filter, that's with you supplying the oil. Tell them to price match an independent and see what price they come up with.

An independent has quoted me £195 incl. VAT which is round £100 less than what members have indicated! However I don't have a choice with a lease vehicle. Dickie |

I have bought from Asda, ebay and a vauxhall dealership as their oil meets the bmw spec. Last time I paid about £50 for 2 5litre containers.

I got the service pack at £425 (have a 320i xdrive) thinking that i'd save 2 services at the best part of £300 each. As it is it's saying it won't need a service until almost 25,000 miles so paying £425 is likely to have wasted £150.

Also two things to do whilst they have the car being: 1. Gromits to sort 2. Brackets or something to change in relation to the DPF? I have heard number 1 being mentioned on forum but not number 2? Anyone else had their Humber 2 sorted? They need an extra 3 hours to complete these so courtesy car arranged. I have asked for an M3. Well I can hope.... Dickie |

1st service circa £250, 2nd service circa £450. So you would save nearly £300 if you took out the service pack. No brainier IMO

I would have insisted on bringing my own oil unless that can match the price I pay for it! What reason was given?.......I know BMW and most of the other prestige brand dealers charge about £90 for 5 litres of fully synthetic, being it Castrol Edge or Mobil 1. Costco price = £30.00!! |

Originally the lady said I could bring my own oil but then referred it and was told you can't. As she gave me a discount, and I am currently not a member of Costco I agreed. Dickie |
