Trip to stunning cornwall

Hi guys, off to Cornwall for a little break next month. Staying in Bude, can't wait for the drive in my heavy tractor as only driven 3k miles in the last 6 months
I know a diesel is questionable with my mileage but I love the entire package and outrageous performance (next time prob petrol tho!)

We plan to visit the stunning beaches (porthcunno etc), Rick Steins seafood restaurant in Padstow etc. Can anyone suggest other places to visit there? Eden etc?

Traveling from SW London, can anyone recommend some decent roads etc when I am there, I imagine I will have to travel via the a303 to get there anyway.

cheers

Well, try the Fleet Air Arm museum at Yeovil ( just off the 303).

In Devon go via Porlock Hill - a bit steep...

I like it around perranporth and St Agnes.

Obviously Tintangel is just down road from where you are staying.

Would completely agree about Perranporth, we stayed there a few weeks ago and had great weather. The beach is amazing with fantastic surf if you like body boarding/surfing.

As for your journey personally I would avoid the A303 as if there is a problem you end up grid locked, we prefer M4/M5/a30 as it generally flows better this time of year albeit you have to expect some level of traffic unless you travel evening/early hours.

Have a great time

Bude is barely out if Devon!

If you're at Bude, check out Boscastle and Tintagel if time (Tintagel itself ok but it has King Arthur's castle there allegidly!). Both nice to see and the Atlantic Highway road that runs that way is a brilliant drivers road.

Perranporth is nice. Sennen cove if you make it that far south. Nice drive down there too.
Polperro another hotspot.

So many nice places to see in Cornwall

Lived most of my life in Cornwall. North coast road is good, some very twisty bits. Newquay if you want a night out, the Warehouse in Falmouth for a meal, Pendennis and St Mawes castles if you like history, don't bother with Land's End, St Ives for a day trip and ice cream, Minack theatre at Porthcurno built into the cliffs for a bit of culture (take a warm blanket). Eden is a bit boring unless you are really into plants.

For getting in and out the A30 is best now that nearly all of it is dual carriageway. No motorway past Exeter. On the map it just says "there be beasts here"

Crantock beach is beautiful.

The Bowgie in is not the most high brow establishment, but the views from the beer garden are stunning.

Also, the Sloop at St Ives is a great pub.

Have a great time!

Went around this way last year.

At Easter we went down the bottom near Penzance - was a great break away!!

Loads to see and do:

Minack Theatre
Lands End
You can go on a plane to Scilly Isles if you fancy it from Lands End Airport
St Michaels Mount
Mousehole
The Lizard
St Ives
Numerous mines

Best holiday we've had in Cornwall.

I used to live in St Ives, amazing number of lorry drivers would be asking for x place in St Ives, we would then point out this was St Ives in Cambridgeshire lol and the St Ives they wanted was on Cornwall.

Thanks for the great tips guys, superb!

Might do as suggested and take the motorway network getting there rather than the a303 or a30 as Lorcan suggests

Got to agree with the fleet air arm museum. most people into cars have a vague interest in planes..and it is a fanstic museum.

The "Carrier Experience" is one of the most creative and interesting ways I've ever seen of displaying museum exhibits...recreating the deck of a circa 1975 aircraft carrier...

Was down in perranporth for two weeks a few months ago, weather was fantastic 31 degrees on a few occasions! Drove down from Edinburgh in the 35d was epic. Get a table booked at Jamie Oliver's Fifteen restaurant, it's on the beach we loved it. Padstow is a lovely little place and St Ives was fantastic also. Leave early and get the park and ride (train) it's only a small journey but it's a nightmare parking in st Ives when busy!

As others have said, don't waste your money on Eden unless your into plants, even then convert clubcard points and you'll get in free!

Museum of Witchcraft in Boscastle is well worth a look - and the village is very pretty. Just make sure that you check the exact location before you arrive in the village, since they don't seem keen to give you directions in the Tourist Information.

There is also the Haynes Motor Museum near Yeovil as well.

An often over looked place.

Some very interesting suggestions here. When my car arrives in October I intend a trip to Somerset and Cornwall if I get it before I'm off work for a week.

That will take care of its first 1200+ miles

I'm not into a lot mentioned here but one passionate plea for those visiting Devon/Cornwall - I thought the Lost Gardens of Heligan (their history and beauty) beat the Eden Project theme park into a cocked hat. Personal view only of course.

Ditto, really great place and excellent story to go with it.

Was there as part of a non public tour in mid / late 90's.

Been since and it's great for a day out.
