Soft-Close Doors on 745 Li

Anyone know if it's possible to add "Soft-Close Doors" option to 2004 745 Li,..if it wasn't ordered as original equipment from factory ?

I don't see how this would be worth even the effort even to just think this idea up.

Soft-Close Doors For 2004 745 Li

Didn't take much effort to think of this idea,..just considering this ( if not crazy cost ),..as a possible way to help a frequent passenger, with a physical need !!

probably be a lot of money, over 1000 for sure.

best bet is to open your door to make it easier to close the passenger door or you just get out and close the door for them.

if its someone elses car and they are the driver then have them open windows before closing the door, that should help

Thanks, Justinnum1,...Definitely some good alternatives !!
Was just wondering out-loud, if there was an "actual" specific price quote that anyone had ever received from a BMW dealer !!
But I'd imagine that you're estimate of at least $1,000,..would be fairly on target !!
I'll call a few dealers in my area,..and I'll see what they say !!.....Thanks

Yea, ima ssuming it just replacing the locking mechanism on the frame of the car(not on the doors) it really just takes the door and pulls it shut. Its the labor that will cost all the money, especially if they are trying to charge 70+ an hour.

Soft-Close Doors For 2004 745 Li

Thanks again,...that makes total sense and seems like the logical fix !!
I'll check with a few of the area BMW dealers, and we'll see what they say !!
Also,..may have a possible ace up my sleeve, since my sons know a BMW mechanic who does some work on the side ( if that's the actual fix,..he might be able to handle for much less ) !!
We'll see !!!! ...Appreciate your insight in this matter !!!!

I don't think they're charge $70 an hour since the 90s. We're well over $130 around here.

There's a hydraulic arm that is mounted on the front part of the door frame. I can't imagine this is a simple bolt on changeover. I'm sure it can be done, but for what BMW charges for OEM parts and at $125/hr labour, I would think you'd be looking at a couple thousand bucks to get it done. It is a nice touch but a difficult retrofit I'm guessing.

Looks like the lock assembly is different whether you have soft close or not, and for the front doors, the part alone is $560/door. So you'd be out about $2,250 in just direct parts, factor in a few small parts, and say five or six hours of labor, and you'll easily be over $3k, or about 15-20% of the value of the car.

Soft-Close Doors on 2004 745 Li

Thanks to all who responded !!
From what you've all said,..it's pretty obvious that a retrofit would be pretty ridiculous ( cost-wise ),...so I'll just chalk it up !!
Not a big deal, and definitely not truly necessary,..but figured that if it was a reasonable retro,..I would have at least considered doing it !!
Thanks, again !!!!
