It happened today. A hair outside of warranty. Less than thrilled about it.
These were the codes (that I pulled with BimmerLink), the ones with * came right back after clearing. No issues with drivability so far. Input is greatly appreciated. Want to get the issue straightened out right away. CD0487 1D2404* 480134 D014F8 D014FA 8053A5* 801237 E71430 Last edited by sspade; 04-24-2018 at 08:16 PM.. |

Reading on the forum and internet that 1D2404 is related to the thermostat...
Further investigation reveals some discussion about a possible campaign / TSB on the thermostat for 2014 model year N26's. Anyone else have theirs replaced? |

So, you don't understand the warranty.
You're in California, and the warranty for emissions problems (which most SES's are) goes to 7/70K. Go in to the dealer and spend the $150-$200 on the diagnoses (you kind of need to do that anyway, even if you DIY the fix.) If the problem is covered by the CA warranty, you're gold. If not, then proceed as necessary. |

I'll be at the dealer first thing tomorrow morning to have them look at it. Fingers crossed this is covered under the CA extended emissions warranty... |

You're not the only owner not to read the warranty book, and conditions. I wonder how many people have paid when they didn't need to. |

I'm in.
Was told that if the issue is the Thermostat or other SULEV covered part... there would be no charge. If they determine its something else, I will be responsible for $175 diagnosis fee. If I move forward with the repair, "part of that fee" may apply to the repair... that part kind of confused me. |

What they mean is that if it takes less than an hour (usual diagnostic time/charge), you'll get credit for that excess and it will be applied to the repair. BMW and it's process for assigning times for repairs is crazy. If you didn't know, every repair's labor is charged for on a predetermined cost for that task. No matter if they get done in a shorter time. |

My independent operates the same way. It’s fair; they don’t want to diagnose for free then have you walk away and DIY the repair. |

In and out in three hours. No appointment. Coolant Thermostat replaced. Zero dollars out of pocket.
The warranty paper I signed said $337. Assuming this would have been my out of pocket had I not owned an SULEV. Thanks Niello BMW. Excellent service since I became a customer this past October. Part number: 11-53-8-635-689 |

There were posts on the other forum arguing if all CELs will be covered by SULEV/PZEV At least for this being thermostat, and thermostat being listed as emission parts, the CEL was covered. BTW, the local SA says the standard procedure is: 1. authorize diagnostics($200?) 2. if it is identified as SULEV related, the diagnostics will be paid by BMWNA 3. if it is not SULEV related, customer will decide to pay diagnostics and leave, or authorize repair(usually $$$$$). The diagnostics in local service is sunk cost, so it is nice Neil at least gives some credits back to customers. |

Well, this is a good story for sure. Not sure if it's a CA or SULEV warranty paying, but it doesn't matter at this point.

Unless he has modified the thermostat he is fine. Mods don't void entire warranties, only the parts they effect.
