Superchips Pro2 Tune installed

Today, the Superchips Pro2 Tune was installed into my 328i from Tigersoft Performance.

Hearing a lot about the JB4 tune, i was a bit reluctant to jump on any other tune just for the peace of mind. I later was introduced to John from Tigersoft Performance and got talking about this tune from Superchip that showed great results. What i was aiming for was more of reliability with better fuel consumption over performance which made me nervous to really jump on any tuning. After reading up on them, the tune looked to be safe so i went ahead with ordering.

Result
Initial:149rwkw
Chip: 175.9rwkw

Dyno
I am proud to say that the BMW 328i did great stock! My car is fitted with the 8AT and to get 149 from said 180kw is a great achievement from the engineers who designed the drivetrain. After the installation of the chip, the gains were smooth and even throughout the dyno chart showing the potential possible from this chip from just a piggy back device. AFR was pretty much unchanged meaning there was no increase in fuel consumption for more power which would be great for a lot of people.
(once i receive the images, i will upload them)

On Road
So here is the real test! Just a little information, I have come from a BMW z4 3.0l manual, have occasionally driven an STi with 300kw on 4 wheels and some GTR's so jumping from my old bmw, my 328 and other cars i've driven has been a massive power gap. After the tune, i could feel the pull on acceleration but did not give me the wow factor. The power gain is definitely there but if you are looking for a monster, the tune is only a start. Flat out on the throttle from 10km/hr gave me wheelspin and showed a fuel consumption reading of 27l/100km at about 40-50km/hr which is about the same before the tune but with the extra power. Highway set on cruise control and Eco Pro mode showed between 4.7l/100km and 5.4l/100km on a flat surface which is about the same aswell. The sports displays however showed the increase the dyno described that proves the sports displays is not just for show and actually does work! (what happens when i pass 400torque?)

Benefit of this tune?
Have you ever taken off at the lights on Eco Pro mode? Have u ever looked in the rear view mirror telling the guy behind you "hey! I am on Eco Pro! I cant go any faster if i want to save fuel!"? Starting from Eco Pro mode is a lot more reasonable after the tune! I have noticed the car gets going a lot better with a lower l/100km count which has dropped my av. l/100km slightly over 200km.

Conclusion

Great tune!
Great power increase
Great smooth power delivery
Same fuel consumption on full throttle

In about 1 months time, I will be able to give l/100km for Urban, Mixed and HWY. So far, I am happy with the results as my main concern was greater fuel consumption and reliability.

Thing is, if you are going to drive the car in a relatively gentle manner - accelerate moderately, keep to speed limits, anticipate traffic flow, etc., the addition of a performance booster will not make any real difference to the car's fuel economy either way.

Push it and see the fuel consumption rise as compared to stock.

Yes the boost 'helps' EcoPro mode become a little more responsive, but in essence, defeats the purpose of EP mode, not that all of us are convinced it needs to be a feature in such a car anyway.

As for 'flat out' fuel consumption, my experience has it that the instantaneous fuel consumption readout tops out at 29.5l/100kms regardless of throttle position. I suspect this was a deliberate move by BMW, as people may be freaked out seeing somewhat higher figures, should the reading show the true instant consumption.

Related to this, the E46 (and earlier) 'econometer' had the needle move to 'infinity' fuel consumption when the car stopped in traffic, the engine idling but the car not moving - thus showing the car's true instant fuel consumption. This did cause concern for many drivers and for the E90, the needle moved to higher figures when slowing down, but as the car came to a stop (idling still), the needle moved to zero. This kept many people calm but did not show the true fuel consumption. Anyway, just a simple comparison.

Enjoy your car's power & torque boost. Makes the car feel new again!!!

Is it a plug and play like the BMS tune where u can detach it as well? I was trying to get more info online about it but with not much luck.

How long did the installation take?

Hi John, what increases for torque did the 328i achieve?

And Raj is here too! Good to see you guys here . Still rocking 2 x M5s Sherv, still going strong

@UB, take a look at the second dyno graph below, it shows tractive effort rather than torque, by my reckoning, maximum increase was 21% at an indicted 160kph road speed (in 6th gear, AT).

I posted a couple of dyno graphs on my Facebook page: The first shows AFRs, and the second shows tractive effort.

Kind Regards

PS Maximum power increase was 30kW at the rear wheels at indicated road speed of 168km/h. Increase in Maximum Power was 25kW at the rear wheels at an indicated road speed of approx 192km/h. Road speeds are in 6th gear with the Auto transmission

Just to confirm.

Were both runs (before and after) done on the same dyno, same day, same conditions?

If yes to all those then a "true" 18% power increase for $650 doesn't sound so bad.

John, you can't receive PM's yet. Can you send me the details and particularly whether this can be done interstate.

Thanks.

@HFW003, yes I can confirm that before and after runs were done on that same Dyno last Tuesday afternoon. We did the 3 stock runs first, then spend 30mins installing the Pro2 (there are only 3 connections, most of the time was spent making the installation tidy) and then immediately after that we did the 3 after runs.

This can be done interstate, installation is very simple. You just need to plug the included wiring loom into 3 easy-to-get-at connectors under the bonnet. The three connectors are:

1) The airflow sensor, on the pipe coming out of the airbox
2) The boost sensor, located right before the MAF
3) The manifold pressure sensor, located right after the MAF

If you open the bonnet, they are all in plain sight and easily accessed.

Cheers

John

Thanks John,

Yeah you need to wait 24 hours to send PM's.

Can you send me any you have via PM when you can.

Is there any need to have a dyno after installation or is it just plug and play?

Thanks mate.

Just an update: When i picked up the car initially, there was an increase in power already. I am 1.5 tanks in since the tune and it feels like the tune and engine are now starting to work together. Definitely more pull than first installed
