I found out that If you hold down the cruise button to coast, the car will activate the brakes. That surprised me when it happened. Pretty cool actually.

The cruise control also applies the brakes when going down hill if needed. It tends to over-brake a bit slowing the car to 1-2 mph less than the setting, and then recovers when things flatten out.

Another cool thing I found was that the HUD brightness adjusts automatically.

So, even when the sun is coming directly into the windshield, I can still see the HUD very clearly. When I turn out of the sun, it dims back to normal. It works really well!

Is it a "oh crap, cop behind me stealthy feature" or does it activate the brake lights also?

I've wondered if the brake lights come on too, but have not had a chance to ask someone to tail me down a hill. Anyone out there know?

I would expect the lights to come on to warn people behind me that I'm slowing down, but you never know and the manual doesn't say.

the screwdriver in your trunk acts as an 8mm socket wrench if you remove the driver. the handle has 2 different size sockets, and the smaller one is an 8mm that fits the plastic bolts in the front wheel wells. sweet!

I suspect this cool feature is on cars with a "lighting package" which I think may be standard on USA cars. (It's amazing how much more content USA cars have in the price.) And, this feature may apply to both the front and rear seats, but I've only confirmed it in the rear.

Open the a rear door and the LEDs in the rear light up in different intensities, depending on which door was opened. If you open the rear passenger's-side door, the LED puddles light on the passenger's-side rear seat and the driver's side rear seat, while illuminated, is less brightly lighted.

Open the other door and the lighting is reversed.

I've owned my car for over six months -- and I am STILL finding new things to love. These cars are amazing.

I think you are right. And now that you mention it I think it does that in the front too. When I get out at night I always thought the angle of the passenger side lighting must be making it look dimmer.

I missed out on the lighting package (cause the brochures said it would be included in the M Sport package, which it was not ) but I still have this feature. I´ve got the panoramic sunroof (Touring) and therefore the center headlight console doesn´t exist. What they have done is split it into two smaller consoles placed almost all the way out on the sides above the doors, do each passenger in the back has got a reading light with a button above the head and it´s this light that intensifies when the door is opened. This is, as you said, really cool

About your prices and value, what you pay for a fully loaded 335i over there would only give you a ~70% loaded 318d over here. And yet you get more stuff included in the base price, lucky bastards

This! Would be really neat if they had the BMW roundel in the steering wheel beeing illuminated around it´s outer diameter, with that warm amber light, when the heating is on

One interesting feature I learned today from the manual is that the external mirrors have automatic heating as long as the engine is running.

I was looking for a button to activate the external mirror heating but was unable to find it. Manual says it is naturally heated, without further interaction.

Don't think it's been mentioned, but I recently found out the speed limit info in my HUD is pulled by the front facing camera reading the speed limit signs. I thought it was GPS driven.

It's definitely camera-driven, but I think it may use some GPS data. For certain, you must have Driver Assistance Plus package to take advantage of this feature.

Never realised this before. Great pickup Yobyot! This must be standard on Aussie F30s

In the US maybe. You can get it without pretty much any other option over here.
And I don't think it uses GPS at all as it can't tell the speed of any street you are on if it haven't read it yet with the camera (like coming out of a garage etc).

I think it only comes with the 'comfort access' package.

I just noticed this yesterday and this is a feature that my other Japanese cars did not have. If you have passengers in the car and you all get out of the car and you lock the car (either using the key or the comfort access door handle lock) and if some door is still open (as in one of the passengers is still getting out of the car), my earlier cars use to warn me with a high pitch tone that the car cannot be locked. But this car "remembers" the lock command and "eventually" locks the car when all the door get shut. Don't know whether this is the better behavior of the two behaviors, but I found it very convenient.
