on my F30 335i with 3400 miles I now average 20.5mpg. That is 80% city driving in sport plus mode and 20% on highway trips on eco pro. I have gotten as low as 15.8 and as high as 34 on a full-tank road trip. Much better than the overall 16 I got on my 07 335i.

335 xdrive, have 350 miles on it.
I normally get 25-26 driving to work so far, 21-22 driving home (traffic is much worse going home). I never drive in Eco Pro, mostly comfort and sport when I am in areas I know I will have to pass people (a few stretches where speed limit is 45 and no one goes over that, so you have to get around them!). I use cruise control whenever possible and its second nature now, use it and it will help your MPG. Also be smart about accelerating and breaking, that is a huge difference maker. If you get a green light but can see another red light 3 blocks away, don't floor it! If you see a light change to red, let off the gas and coast to the stop (unless someone will cut you off to take your pole position, haha), BMWs have amazing coasting abilities, part of their effecient dynamics I guess. This morning I was at 27.5 MPG on the first 17 miles of my drive, but crashed it to 26 overall when I decided to let loose on the final 2 miles (open stretch with 55 mph speed limit). The xdrive is rated at 21 city and 31 highway, I think I am getting about 24 on average so far and I am happy with that, allows me to let loose when I want and conserve gas at other times. My C63 was giving me 14-15 MPG on average, so this is a welcome change and to be honest when its in sport mode it really doesn't feel much slower, because its so smooth it almost seems as fast as the C63 at times, the AWD helps too, haven't had any wheel spin. And I am shocked to say that I do not regret the move at all, if you gave me the choice of the 335 xdrive (M Sport EBII) vs my Silver C63 (2009) I would take the 335 all day! Now once Mercedes update the interior, lowers the weight, gets some better gas mileage (maybe next gen C63) that might be a different story. |

As well, traffic density varies. Tire pressure makes a difference, how aggressive you are off the stop/light, how long you coast to a stop vs those who stay on the throttle and then brake hard, etc... I'm in NW Indiana about 40 miles south of the city/Chicago. My daily driving is about 70% highway and 30% city with no city like stop and go. We have our share of lights our here in the rural burbs, but the distance between them is longer, speeds are higher, and traffic density much less. I have a 335i Msport w/sport AT. I always use "sport" mode, but with the adaptive suspension my 'sport' mode has firmer steering, firm suspension, but "comfort" throttle response and AT shifts, which means I'm using all 8 gears and the trans will shift to 8th gear well before I get to 55mph. I pretty much never use standard "comfort" mode, and never use "eco" as I HATE it and find no use for it. I do use manual shift at times, or DS trans mode. And I do drive in a very spirited manner from time to time. My highway speed for commuting is between 70-80mph. Tire pressure is 37psi front and 40psi rear. My tires are summer high performance that are sticky and have a high rate of wear. Staggered size 225/255. MPG has been rising steadily since new. I'm now around 1900 miles and my last full tank averaged about 26.3 to 26.8mpg. This is excellent MPG in my experience. My former '09 135i with MT driven on the same roads in the same manner averaged about 21-22mpg. Tire pressures were 38/41psi. The 135i was a tad lighter with same power N54. The sport AT is really showing it's efficiency giving me at least 5mpg better per gallon in my 335i Msport. During the early miles I ran to red line, steadily, a number of times to make sure the rings set nicely. If you use a higher tire psi as I do and set the trans to use all 8 gears at lower speeds, you'll get better MPG. And, as with all my BMW's the MPG does goes up as you get more miles on the engine. It varies, but at some point it reaches it's best and the stays there, obviously, as it can improve forever. I've had a couple of AT 328i's and MPG over a couple of days was very close to my 335i, with a couple more MPG's to the 328i, but not more than that, for the conditions and way I drive. I'm quite happy and impressed with my 335i's MPG, I wasn't expecting it to be this good. |

The other day I drove my 335i 22 miles straight on the highway and got 41.2 mpg in comfort mode. Yes, I was driving consciously for best possible mileage (minimal braking, maintaining optimal speed, not allowing dynamic cruise control to apply brakes automatically, etc). It was a kind of an experiment.
Normally on the same route with "general" driving I get about 30-33 mpg (with three adults in the car) On days I drive like a reck, I get about 20-22 mpg. |

Maybe this is a dumb question, but I plan to purchase a 328 Msport. (coming out of 07 335 e90) imgoing to the smaller engine because of gas prices, and better mileage. But i want to put a chip in. Question is will i be getting same or worse mileage than a stock 328, or 335 (because of the added hp)? What can I expect from mileage (avg)? Does adding the chip cross out my reason for getting a 328?
Thank you in advance!

I have the Luxury touring 328i on loan and covered 450 miles from new, 35/36MPG UK driving very carefully, no real boot down yet, chipping it would not be a good idea IMO, get the 335i.
