My F11 5 series auto does the same as did the E61 5 Series I had before that. It is not a problem unless you have precision parked 1" away from a post.......

Mine does this too. Had local dealer check it out and they said all ok and normal following a minor adjustment. Still does it.....

I have an F30 320d loaner and noticed the park brake negages on the 1st click unlike my 328i which actually takes 6 clicks to engage.
I doubt engine type should influence the behaviour so i phoned up the service area to notify them of the difference. Hope it is adjusted when i pick up my car today.

Interesting to read this...
I've just bought a 2013 X5 3.0d M Sport and noticed immediately that it rolls (only an inch or so) when I cut the engine. No movement when hitting 'P' and no movement when activating the the electronic hand brake BUT as soon as I cut the engine it moves slightly in the direction of the decline. I've read elsewhere that this is to do with the switch from hydrolic brakes, which pinch all 4 wheels when the engine is running, to the mechanical brakes, which pinch only the rear 2 wheels when the engine is off... I am satisfied with the explanation however I'm curious as to why it didn't do it on a hire X3 I had recently or the courtesy car X4 I've got now whilst they investigate the problem... |

I imagine part of it will be the extra weight of the vehicle and weight transfer onto the rear suspension when using the parking brake. Rear suspensions are different designs in X3/4 and X5, I suspect the integral link design of the X5 allows a bit more rotational movement when loaded on the brakes. Suspension compliance is also another variable, and greater 'flexing' in the X5 another possibility. HighlandPete |

Look to the positive, the new op found the original thread and posted, using the search!
Takes the fun out or recirculating the issues though

Doesn't it just! I'm fast approaching 70,000mls now and due to get rid of it in a few months as that'll be its 3 year stint up. Time flies!

With apologies, I've ordered an Audi A6 Avant Ultra, Black Edition.
I should create a thread explaining myself really shouldn't I...

My drive has a slight incline and I use handbrake and obviously park. The car always move forward with a creaking. It makes me think I haven't pulled the handbrake up high enough! As already has been said think it's normal. Dickie |
