Folks,
I am new to BMW coding (but not to the world of coding/programming in general). I am looking to code a few options on my 2012 F30 328i Sports line with Premium, Tech, Xenon lights with BMW Assist and Advanced Bluetooth, etc. I would really appreciate your help with a few questions I have: 1] Cable - are the places listed in the OP still the best sources for buying the cable? 2] Software - I use a Mac, so I am looking for a place where I can download the software and the relevant data files. Couple of things that I am hoping to code eventually: get ipod out using the USB cable, video in motion, possibly enabling BMW live (do I need the BMW Convenience plan to enable Live?) Thanks in advance |

Software is PC only, so you will need to run it under Parallels or something similar. Checkout the more technical bimmerpost coding forums for details and pitfalls. I don't think you'll get iPod out without the cradle and I think enabling BMW live will disable BMW Assist. I'm sure others will correct me if I'm wrong. At least DVD in motion is easy to do! |

try this: http://www.amazon.com/Cable-J1962M-O...eywords=J1962M or this: http://www.amazon.com/Cable-J1962M-O...eywords=J1962M I got the 10 footer and made my own cable with 1/2 of a grounded Cat-5 patch cable, a 510 ohm resistor and some soldering and shrink tubing. |

Is there any way to VO code without actually writing the FA to the vehicle?
I tried this morning removing certain VO from the vehicle, intentionally skipped the step to write FA to vehicle, proceeded to code Combox & CIC which worked ok, but the specific option code that i remove also got deleted from the FA |

I would reset the ECU (VO Code) and try it again from scratch. It should work just with those 3 codes, and by changing only the drop-downs.

Should I therefore => Read FA > edit & save FA > "how to exit FA?" > load FA > activate FA > code ECU. |

I tried changing 6NH to 6NK today and got this error when I coded HU_ENTRY
Transaktions-Report: Aktion: Codieren HU_ENTRY [63] cdDeploy ProcessedWithError cafd_000000f9-007_003_024 ProcessedWithError The head unit would not go past the BMW splash screen. I changed the VO back to 6NH, recoded and it was working again. What am I doing wrong?

By Exit, I meant only to save the FA, then click on the Coding module. From there, make sure the modified FA is loaded and active, then VO Code the ECU.

Beyond that, I am not sure a Basic Head Unit can support 6NK. I think you need HU_CIC and CMB_MEDIA (Combox) to switch from 6NH to 6NK.

I move from FA editor to Coding, and esys prompted to reload the FA, which I click yes, and I saw the file pre-loaded in the Coding screen, and seeing that the option i want to get rid off is no longer there, so i proceeded to code, which went well. Just don't understand why the vehicle FA was updated as well since I didn't write the modified FA back to the car |

Yes I have coded everything without getting an error. I guess the only reason is HU_ENTRY not supporting 6NK

Hi, I'm just getting the software all setup up, I've just confused on the psdzdata files:
The psdzdata.7z.001, psdzdata.7z.002..... do I need to combine these 7z files or form a massive file or do I leave them in their current form? Or unpack them separately before moving them in the C:\ESysData\psdzdata\ Thanks. |

All I got were lots of psdzdata.7z.001.....etc files. Should I just copy these over?
Also the next part says "Copy the contents of the "C:\ESysData\psdzdata\swe" folder into the "C:\ESysData\SWE" folder." I don't seem to have this folder C:\ESysData\psdzdata\swe. |

You can ignore that second step. Nothing is needed in the C:\ESysData\SWE folder, and doing so will only waste 20 gb of HD space.
