Impressed by 335i fuel consumption

Just come back from a week in Norfolk, and was very impressed by the fuel consumption from my 6MT 335i. This is the first long-ish trip I've done since it's got a few miles on it. This is just "normal" driving - i.e. I wasn't making any effort to save fuel by driving gently, but not hammering it either.

Below is the trip computer readout from the journey back. The journey there gave me 38.4 mpg so pretty consistent.

Looks impressive!

I still don't think I've seen a F30 335i on the road in the UK yet.

Around 27-30 generally. That's for local driving in town. If you're talking about city (e.g. London) driving then I've yet to find out - I don't usually take the car into that particular hell-hole as the train is so much less hassle.

I've just recently taken delivery of a 320D and on mine the "Journey Computer" is labelled "Trip Computer". I take it they are actually both the same thing but recently modified?

I would guess that you have the new nav system and they've renamed it. Can someone else who has the new nav confirm?

Good result Tony

I've not driven a F30 335i, have you driven a 330D or 328i? Would like to hear a comparison if you have

I saw a 335i for the first time yesterday morning on the M1, love the exhaust pipes. I even looked under mine to see if the it meant a back box swap, but sadly looks like there is no join in the rear, and the 330D has a huge oval pipe.

I've seen a few M sports in my location. One M3. Unable to tell if they were the 320,328 or 330.
Never noticed the exhausts. Is the 330d & 328i exhausts the same, twin same side ?

Yep, 335i is one either side, 330d, 328i & 325d is twin exit on the left, everything else is single exit on the left.

I've driven a 328i briefly while I trying to decide between 328/335, and my dealer let me have one for a morning. Good though it was, the experience was enough to make me shell out the extra for the 335i, as I couldn't live without the feel and noise of the 6 pot engine after coming from my E46 330i (and 5 previous BMWs, all but one of which were 6 cylinder engines). The extra oomph of the 335i is also, IMHO, hugely noticeable, and also hugely addictive

After 8 months of ownership I've not regretted it one tiny little bit.

Cool, thanks! I know what you mean regarding 328, I found it almost too smooth. I was offered a 335i which tempted me, but the spec was wrong, so just couldn't. Have you had any thoughts on going for the PPK?

No, not really. Personal preference, of course, but the car is plenty fast enough for me. The one thing I would prefer would be to be able to hear the exhaust a bit more - it makes a gorgeous noise but it's just a little too quiet at the lower rev range. Sad bugger that I am, I quite often open all the windows just so I can hear it a bit better. I've thought about the performance exhaust, but I can't really justify it with my sensible hat on.

Would have loved the 335i but was given a budget and the 328i gave a good blend of performance & smoothness plus a decent helping of gadgets. Had I gone for the 335i the spec would have been pretty sparse. A 330i F30 would have been nice (for the improved soundtrack) but not sure it'll ever be worth BMW's effort to make one and to try and squeeze it in between the 335i and 328i on a cost/performance basis.

I could have had 330d + toys or 335i/AH3 + no toys. I went for the 330d. But I do sometimes wonder about that straight six petrol. I've never had one and as I've already mentioned today it's the performance that I love on my car. I'm pretty sure I could have lived without the toys.

Next time...
