N20 ECU Flash Provider List

So as there are many claiming they have cracked the ECU lets make a post with all that are true Flashes and not piggy backs, as it is known the N20 is not doing well with the piggy back tunes and all the info is scattered on what is available. I will add to the list if there is more than what is listed bellow and if people can jump in and show dyno charts of the increase over base line I can add it to the post.

US/Canada/International Dealer Network
- EuroCharged
- ESSTuning
- GIAC

US
- GSRTechnik (California)
- Enzo Performance (New York)
- Mission Performance (California)
- EuroDynamic Tuning (Pennsylvania)

International
- BR-Performance (Belgium, non-US network available)
- DVX Tuning (Belgium, non-US dealer network available)
- Zip Tuning (Belgium)
- ACF Performance (USA, Brazil, Colombia)

1. DIMSport
2. Enzo Performance (but I do not see the 328I on the site anymore)
3. ESSTunning
4. Mission Performance
5. Zip Tunning
6. GIAC
7. GSRTechnik (Has been lots of flagged issues and little gains compared to stock, so this one is on this list but not likely to be used)

Well, #7 shouldn't have flagged issues. There was a dust-up that unfairly has given it a negative reputation to some it but shouldn't have. I just had my car done on Saturday. I don't know how you can say 57lbs of torque increase on a mild tune per my request is a little gain! A almost 20% increase over stock done in a conservative long term longevity-minded process is pretty impressive to me. I literally watched as Matt tailored my tune to what I wanted...using some super trick graphs he can see in the stock tune and smoothed the power delivery out accordingly. This is NOT a canned tune he uses on everyone which is all you get from a piggyback..a generic tweak; he does them for the individual based on what the are looking for. Don't base this on just the negative crap you've seen written here especially seeing you've only been here ~2mos. There are quite a few very happy consumers as well...myself included.

Don't believe DimSport should be listed. Seems that they provide hardware for tuners..not software/tunes for consumers...

For that matter, GIAC too. And even gsr. There is a provider in Indonesia (any maybe even more countries now) that has purchased the rights for the GSR solution. GIAC has tuners in Singapore too.

So is mcchip dkr and a few more

At the end of the day, these solutions are just a way to assess the ecu. There wouldn't be much difference with the tunes that the individual tuner will be able to provide (skill level aside). Boils down to how much boost u are willing to run and ur fueling. That wouldn't be much difference between 2 cars with the same setup, wanting to run the same tables. Unless u are telling me that the different solutions can assess different tables?

If u really want to compare the solutions, I would prefer those that is able to unlock the OBD2 port for subsequent tuning, such as Mission Performance. And I do not think anyone drills the ECU anymore, dun be fooled. All the solutions that I have contacted during my research, which is a even longer list than what OT has listed, all of them opens the ECU and uses pins to touch certain connectors.

GSR Technik PROVIDES the flash directly. It is their product. I'd imagine all tuners have access to the tables/software code. It's whether or not they understand the code fully and where the variables are in the code that is important. I'm sure there are some that have a cursory (dangerous) knowledge that can mess up a car. GSR is not one of those. And yes, Matt mentioned to me that they have a supporter in Indonesia. He's in Japan as I type this working on that market as well.

New to post on Bimmerpost but been around for a few years and been on other forums. But not new to tuning and big HP builds on cars. I research a lot and although there are countless posts not just on here but other forums and videos I will go ahead and remove the comments and let people decided on there own on what to get and be unbiased. If you guys have any other consumer companies that offer a ECU flash not on the list please let me know and I will update. I just want to make a list for people and myself as I am up in the air on what I want to get for my BMW and want to go with the safest solution but highest gains as I am sure everyone here wants to keep their car for a long time.

Here in Europe we have a few Belgium tuners BR-Performance and DVX tuning. They measure in crank horsepower although their baseline seem to be similar to what BMS measured, the delta shows +/- 100hp difference for stage 1.

Dont know if this is on 91 or 93 octane.

BrenTuning site does not list any ECU flash options for F30 all they have are piggy backs. Please confirm that they do indeed flash the ECU and no use a piggy back

I'll have my 428i ECU flashed by ESS in four weeks time. Already made the appointment with them. Gonna drive to their European headquarters in Norway, It's about a two hour drive from where I live.

I think I will be the first on this forum to get the custom ECU flash from ESS on the N20.
Will report back with dyno and general impression.

Why 4 weeks ?

OP.. why did you remove GIAC from your list ?
There's also Enzo Performance, EuroDynamic Tuning, CBTuning amongst the list

JB4 = piggyback system = tricks computer to use more power (not as consistent as flash)

Flash = re-calibration / re-pogram of the computer to take use of its free available potential power (smoother, consistent)

What you need to worry about is the right tuner (flash) is good and same with jb4 is properly installed and you follow the steps in the n54tech.com on testing and logging your car.

Is there a "per State" list? I'm looking to have my 2012 328 done and it would be great to see what choices we have in North Carolina (for example).

As of right now this is the list, some are state side and some are European. I think I might change the list to just US based providers as I am sure noone will be sending there ECU cross country and as we get more info and more shops doing the flashes we can add in the states etc. But it's easy to look up the company with google and see what state they are in.
