No key fob? No problem!

Well I just got to the gym. I was gonna lock my car, then I realized I didn't have my fob with me. I'm 4 miles away! I would have never thought I would be able to drive away so far without a fob. Lesson learned.

How are you going to get back home? Did you shut off the engine?

I'm surprised the car didn't tell you they key was out of range, I used to get that occasionally even when in my pocket in my 2008 135i.

I think it did as I was intially warming it up, but I never got a warning afterwards...

And it is a safer option than suddenly cutting power when the car is a certain distance from the key.

Must not have paid attention that morning when you left then, if the engine is running, even if I just hop out to put something/get something from the trunk, there's an alert that fob is not detected.

That warning is not so easy to overlook. You may want to look around inside the car for a dropped key fob. And, by the way, the distance you can go away from the key is as far as you can get without turning off the ignition.

That's good to know. I always get out of my car to pick up the mail on the way in and I don't think it's ever set off any kind of alarm.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha. I'm sorry, but that is too funny. What would happen if you go on a road trip and make it 300-400 miles then stop for gas without realizing it? Lol

Hahaha! Yeah that would have sucked so bad! I think I might have had to push the "SOS" button.

Wait, so the car won't immobilize itself if it loses detection of the key fob ?

Good one! Hahaha
You've probably noticed all those immobilized BMW's clogging traffic there in K.L.

LOL I can tell you I would be in at least 2 wrecks if my car had immobilized itself when I got a "no key fob" alert

All this while I've been led into thinking all cars with keyless ignition/entry would immobilize itself if a key isn't present. Oh well.

For next time, they should implement immobilization prior to the initial movement. Obviously it would be dangerous to immobilize while already on the road. But restrict movement after start up if the key fob is not with you.
