This is the same issue. Look at the temp gauge in that video. Was your car fully warmed? The needle isn't even close to the middle. Temp gauge and cooling fan related

I was experiencing the same symptoms. The dealer found some fault codes and saw that the fan was toast.

Dealer replaced the fan and my car has never felt stronger.
Do you know where this fan is located? I'd like to take a look at it first if I could.

My temp was about the same. What do you consider fully warmed? It would take a very good while before I can get the needle half way.

I normally flog it when it's above 200F

Taking mine in this week for the same thing. Happened twice already and I'm at 5,000 miles.

One tick to the left of 250 is when I start to flog it. But when the fan comes on full blast, the temp is NEVER at 250 so it caught my eye. How could the fan be on full blast when engine temp barely at operating temp? So I knew at that point something was up. Oh and dead throttle

If you have the lack of power, the loud fan noise, and a vibrating/pulsating steering wheel, then the culprit is likely the electric cooling fan. Have your dealer take a look at it. They'll likely check for error codes before ripping anything out of the engine bay.

Unfortunately, I do not. An exploded blueprint of the N55 would likely contain the information you seek.

Now that it is evident that there are several faulty electric cooling fans out there, I have the following questions for those experiencing problems with it:

1) When was your car built?

2) What "line" is your car (i.e., M-Sport, Sport, etc.)?

My information:

1) August 2012 Build

2) M-Sport Line

Limped to work today for the first time. Sucked. Seemed to go away when I restarted the engine at a red light.

October 2012 build.

335 M-Sport

Bringing it in Monday to have ASS recoded and my Sport Display gauges set to US standards. I'll mention the limp mode, but confidence is low. They weren't very sure about the coding issues.

Took mine in to the dealer today. Didn't get to take it home. They had it all day for the software update and found no codes relating to the loud fan/ limp mode that I experienced twice ALSO they have no idea why my horn stopped working. I feel certain I will be without for a while( to make things a bit worse, I have a no line 328 as a loaner when last time I received a 2013 mineral white 740li with 38 miles on the odo. I sold it for them a week later. Got a nice bird dog fee too ) On the upside when I do get it back the performance lip and diffuser will be on the car!! Spoiler is on, performance mats are in and all performance interior parts are on. Next, Tint and a jb4....done!

The electric cooling fan is mounted to the radiator and the fan shroud.

Happened twice. Power wise feels the same as long as the fan isn't full blast. Happened twice already but I've not reached break in so I can't take it in just yet.

I'm going to wait and see if it happens another 2-3 times before taking it in.

Something similar happened to me yesterday to our new 2013 M Sport 335i. I am still not out of break-in so I did not notice any lack of power as I have been very gentle with driving the car. Our car was purchased in November 2012, but I do not know the date of manufacture or where to find it. I am going to bring it to the dealer tomorrow to ask them about it or it they will check out our car. BTW, I did notice that the oil temp indicator was running very low but just attributed it to the short drive and cool temperature outside. Anyway, here is what I posted on another forum:

"Today our 1 month old 2013 F30 335i M-Sport Sedan with almost 1000 miles on it suddenly started making a rather loud engine noise "roar" when idling at stoplights during a short trip. According to the tach it was idling at normal RPM. Since the trip was short the engine hardly got a chance to warm up and the outside temp was about 45 F.

When I got the car home I popped open the hood to take a listen. It was a roaring sound somewhat reminiscent of the sound that a diesel truck makes when idling. I shut the engine off and then turned it back on. The roar was gone and our F30 sounded normal again.

Has anyone else experienced this with the F30 335i? Could the cause be something that triggered the engine cooling fan to run faster?"

They can code the sport display to US standards?

Yes, I hope that it is something simple like that which the dealer will be aware of and not something nebulous which may happen when we are on a long trip. Since I did not hear the fan roar when I was not idling at stoplights, my guess is that it was still occurring when the car was in motion, but that the noise was drowned out by the normal engine sound?

Had same issue as well with my 335i M Sport fan kicked on really loud and been noticing oil temp staying really low on long drives seems like a cooling issue, I know we have a different coolant pump on the 335 M sport compared to other f30s wondering if this is a issue.

I brought our M Sport 335 to the shop today for the same issue. No power loss but a low reading temp guage. The service writer did mention a secondary fan on the M Sport 335, but said that the problem could be caused by a number of issues. I have our car scheduled to be checked out next week at our dealer and will report back then. However, we have had no issues since the one isolated incident.

yup, those are the symptoms...fan on max, oil temp low even though you drove at least 20-30 mins so it should be in the middle, and dead throttle. u can actually feel a vibration or rattle in the dash if u accelerate with windows closed and music off, when this is happening.

So not to sound too negative, but seeing how this doesn't log an incident, we will essentially have to wait until enough people report this, an official diagnosis and fix is reported, and a SIB is filed.

Then we will have to get said SIB form (from someone on this forum) and bring it to our SA's in the hopes of convincing them that this is what is wrong with our cars and it's not all in our heads.

Hope I don't sound too pessimistic about our potential outlook. Just seems like unless a code is logged or there are flames shooting out of our cars, we get told it is "normal behavior".

It might be logged in the ecu already, not sure if it goes in shadow memory but too many drive cycles can clear it. Personally I'm waiting for it to happen consistently before I let them take a swing at my new car. Rather not go in if I don't have to. I've driven the car about 10 times or so since the last fan incident and nothing yet. I wonder if it was a software glitch and maybe reset itself.
