Mud Flaps, anyone adding them?

I was talking to me father in law and I mentioned that mud flaps were available as an add on. He said that he had them on his old '84 320i and that they really did make a difference for keeping crap off of the lower part of the car.

They are less than $100 front and rear and seem to be an easy install if I can't get the dealer to throw them in with the car at delivery.

Anyone have any thoughts from personal experience on the mud flaps?

Well, I am told they will not fit an M-Sport b/c the aero kit gets in the way. So much for that idea.

I've recently been looking into these as well.. I'm concerned about how they will make the car look. I don't want to make it look like "my moms car" . I really want to keep the sporty look , but at the same time the mud is the worst.

I've got'em on my car. I think it looks alright and helps protect the paint. I've never owned a BMW before so I thought I'd take an extra step to protect the paint.

I installed them at the dealership last week. It's quite low profile.

I'm going to try and install them on my Msport, which should be here any day.

I asked for a set as part of the deal.
Some say they won't fit an Msport, but most of the different body work is in front, and the area where the flaps go looks to be the same.

On my 135i they also said that the front flaps wouldn't fit due to the different front of th 135i vs the 128i, but they fit just fine.

I'll post a pict if they do fit on an Msport.

Does installing mudflaps require drill or are the holes already there?

No drilling required. The splash guards use existing holes/hardware already in the wheelwells.

Here is a quick iPhone pic I took shortly after installation.

FYI, when my parts guy went to order, the computer told him they were a no go for the M-Sport, he showed me the screen.

Let us know how the install goes.

I dry fitted the mud guards and they fit just fine on the Msport. Perfect fit actually. I think the computer info is wrong or not up to date.

The problem is that the rears only came with 4 screws, but 2 go in the bottom of one guard, there is one existing that is used, and then there are 2 more holes in the guard and the inner wheel well.
So, you need 4 new screws each 8 total and my set only came with 4 for both.

I can get them mounted without the 2 inner screws. It feels like it will hold especially with the double sided tape. But I'll see if the shop can give me 4 more.

How many screws came with your rear set?

Mine came with 4 total for the rears, and 4 push-in tabs for the fronts.
Seems to be enough for the front using those and existing push-in's, but seems I'll be 4 light for the rears, unless I don't use 4 per guard.

Mine came with 2 new screws for each side. The part of the flap that attaches inside the wheel well used existing hardware. The two self-tapping screws I used for for the "extension" part of the flap toward the rear. Those go into the plastic cover under the car...at least thats where I put them. If they don't, the underbody panel under the trunk now has 4 new drain holes.

Could we please get pictures of the mud guards fitted on an m sport? I am curious to see what it looks like. It sounds like fitment isn't an issue.

Yes I'll be adding them because if you look at the car from behind the tires stick out from the rear bumper so they will kick up debris onto the car.
