I got mine done too with catless downpipe. Sounds awesome no drone not too loud.

Spot welded half the holes took out all the packing and welded it back

Awesome! You should post a sound clip up. Love to hear it with a down pipe.

What do you think about the overall sound vs. an actual cat back?

I should have mine done tonight and with a catless downpipe installed. Only other difference is I'm missing 2 cylinders so hopefully it still sounds good. I'll post a sound clip within the next couple of days.

I've heard a couple of them without a muffler. Sounds great.
BUT and it's a big but, it's too loud inside, and drones like crazy.

As this still keeps the center chamber intact the muffler is still quieting things down a bit. Also, this is only costing me $75 for all supplies and labor, which is probably cheaper than doing a full muffler delete.

I love it! Sounds awesome with the down pipe and the turbo spool up.

Mine sounds just like that without the turbo spool.

Great job man. What do you think of it? Definitely saved you some cash.

Thanks, I love it honestly. It's not too loud with no drone. But i can say after you add the downpipe its soo much louder. The crappy video i took doesnt do it justice. It will be a lot louder. The turbo spool is a plus

I just listened to it again in my car with a better harman/kardon system and wow it sounds that much better! Reminds me of e92 335 with a full car back and down pipes.

Did you leave the spring on the flap?

Thanks for all the info this dd1981, I'm gonna give this a try here in Italy. I'm USAF stationed out here and its a pain in the ass getting stuff sent here (like big exhaust boxes) so this is the next best thing which really doesn't sound to bad at all. Quick question do you by any chance have a part number or anything of the exhaust clamp/coupler you used? Thanks.

I sure do. BMW 18307560815. I got lucky and picked up an extra one on this forum for like $50. But they sell for an outrageous price around $100-120 dollars. I know its insane.

You can always call a BMW dealer in Germany and Im sure they can accomodate a freight box to Italy. Its not that far.

But yeah give it a go. Im glad more people tried it and seem to be very very happy with the sound.

I just finished mine up a couple days ago. I think it sounds really good, especially for only costing me about $60 and a few hours of my time. I'll try to take a video in a few and post it up.

Can't wait to hear it. You had the N2O motor correct?

Yup, here you go. N20 with aFe downpipe and modded 335i muffler, light/moderate revs to 3k and 4k RPM, warm start (didn't want to annoy the neighbors too much). The 2nd video is prior to the muffler mod (colx start).

Prior to muffler mod (N20 with unmodified 335i muffler and downpipe) - Cold start:

Very nice! I like it alot. I didnt suspect at all you where taking a 335 muffler and bolting it to your 328. Thats cool as hell! So it just bolts up with the exhaust clamp like on the 335's? Same diameter piping? Also what tips are those in the 1st video they're much larger looks good.

It sounded great with just the stock 335 muffler mod, but then it just transformed into a whole different animal after you sealed the tubes.
Exactly how mine took shape, went from a nice stock sound to a great note and every rev has endless burbles and the overrun louder and meaner.

Sounds great man. can't beat the sound for the price

Yeah man, thanks. It required a slight modification of the muffler inlet piping because we did a bad cut and it didn't line up perfectly, but it was minor. The piping on the 335i near the muffler is 5mm larger in diameter. I used the 328 muffler clamp to connect them. The video doesn't show much of a difference but its much more noticeable in person after modifying the muffler. Higher revs make it much more apparent. Best bang for my buck mod I've done thus far
