Gloss Back Mirror Covers

Looking at changing the mirror covers on my MG F30 to gloss black ones.

I don't want to spray or wrap the original ones and have started looking online etc...

I've thought about finding some from a scrap yard in any colour then getting them wrapped/sprayed.

However I've found these on the popular auction site...

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GLOSS-BLA...YAAOSw8-xZwUg9

Anyone know if they're good/bad, fitment issues etc?

I know they will never be as good as OEM.

Just having a look on RealOEM for the part number for the shadow edition ones too. Does anyone know this?

Cheers

My understanding of non-oem gloss black parts isn't the fit but the plastic used, the problem being that it can chip easily and be prone to dulling once chipped.

No sure how they would chip easy. You can't buy black caps from BMW. They have to be retro painted at the dealers or a body shop.

The only way to get the black from BMW is to order a black car.

Op. I'm about to take delivery of a MG M240. which has they stupid looking Ferric grey mirror covers. If you fancy selling yours I could be interested. I had my last cars caps painted at a body shop with no problems

You must be able to buy them? they're standard on the shadow edition.

If you go to BMW configurator the shadow edition keep the grey mirror caps.

I too found those on ebay after wanting them when I saw them on the BMW Configurator.

Must be a BMW part number somewhere ?

Just spoke to dealer and the shadow edition caps are apparently just painted Jet Black, no special plastic ones. Cost is £112 for part in primer, £244 inc fitting and painting. Makes the ebay ones look tempting at £50

Cheers

Definitely keen to see if you do go-ahead. MG here and i was literally looking at getting these but had the same questions as you. I did attempt to wrap my current wing mirrors but this was by far from a "professional" job haha. Got quoted £60 to wrap current covers as well...

The original 1 series sport model had the option of black gloss mirror caps (I can't remember if the 3 did as well at the time). I had one back in 2012 with them. Have you not tried a breakers for a pair??

What is apparent looking at this and other forums. BMW have missed a trick here. Not having a gloss black option and expecting dealers to paint them for shadow editions is crazy.

How much should one expect to pay at a breakers for a set of these?

It's a while since I bought anything from a breakers, but I personally wouldn't pay more than £40 for the pair.(assuming they're in good nick).

My hunt for black mirrors covers is now over....

I was able to buy some genuine BSM ones from a fellow forum member. The plan was to get them and then get them sprayed or wrapped in gloss black. However looking at them they look okay to put straight on the car... I tried them out to see what they looked like (braving the cold chill and snow). You can tell that there is a shade difference where the black gloss from the mirror housing meets the metallic black cover.

Part of me says leave it as it is but there's a small part of me that wants it to 100% colour match (ocd in me) What to do... Anyone else using BSM covers instead of gloss ones?

Pics below...
