F30 Interior Lighting Demo
I've always been impressed by the interior lighting in the F30. The colour is nice, the cabin is well lit up and the ambient lighting at night time with the lights on is gorgeous. I have mine in "Mode Luxury" so it's white.
Anyway, there have been many threads on the night time ambient lighting - on the doors, pillars, roof, etc... However, I don't recall anything on what I've spotted! The main lights in the roof are also very clever. Unlock the car and they all come on (that's centre, right & left individual lights, both front and back as you will know). But here's the nice touch, if you open the drivers door (or passenger doors, but we'll use the driver as an example for now) the relevant individual light/reading light will illuminate further whilst the rest of the cabin is dulled, highlighting the driver compartment only. When you're in and the door is shut, the footwell lights that were activated shut off and the rest of the interior is once again illuminated. It's just the little things like that which make you smile, so I thought a video was in order! I've even made it 1080p for you

I think it is either a Line only feature (Sport, Modern, Luxury, M Sport) or high engine as standard feature (28i, 30d, 35i) but I couldn't be sure. Think I've seen a 320d EfficientDynamics with them on though, unless they are an optional extra on that.

I feel quiet comfortable with the all-over software logic. The way the interior and exterior lighting behaves is one example. Discrete but very functional.
Other example is the logic behand the High Beam assist combined with adaptive Xenons; really impressiv and state of the art (see other threads). |

Funny you should mention High Beam Assist, I just added a video of that (with Adaptive Xenon's obviously) to my High Beam Assistant thread:

It's the Extended Interior Lighting Package you're speaking of. (563) which is standard on most 3 series but "line" specific. Can't remember quite what model you need to order to get it but it's on most

These are trim levels.
In UK hierarchy, it looks likes this for the 3 Series range: ES (Poverty Spec) - do not buy this ED (EfficientDynamics Edition 320d), SE (This is where you should start and then move further on if your budget allows) Sport Line (max. 320i/d) Modern Line Luxury Line, M Sport This differs for the US and other continents.

I noticed that your "armed" light flashes under the mirror upon locking the vehicle. I don't think mine does. Is that part of your premium package? Also, since getting the dealer to permanently disable the A.S.S., i've noticed two things:
1. It doesn't matter weather the A.S.S. button is lit or not. It does not activate at all after this modification. 2. All of my exterior door lights illuminate when putting the vehicle in reverse. Just thought i'd add my $.02 to the discussion. Ha!

The lights on the door handles come with the "light package", its not line specific (the interiors are) but how/when/with what you can get the package depends on your location.

But, if you're referring to the alarm system, it is fitted as standard on all BMW models at no extra cost. My 2006 520d, 2009 330d and 2012 328i have all exhibited this behaviour upon locking. Every BMW I've seen does the same. If the car alarm has been activated or tampered, the light will flash rapidly upon vehicle entrance. An iDrive message may be displayed but I'm not sure - haven't set it off in my 328i. Can't help you with your ASS , but you should still be able to activate it. Interesting on the exterior lights in reverse. I haven't noticed this but I shall take note next time I hit R in the dark. May not be applicable here in the UK for law differences.

I have a question though - my car is M-Sport and interior light set to Sport. When unlocking my car the interior is also much brighter. I have viewed this externally and it would seem like the main light cluster has two additional lights that looks like LED's, left and right. There is no way that I can manually switch these on... Any ideas?

Lighting is a very cheap and efficient way to add a little "luxury" to a car. Look what some of the lower end cars like Kia and Hyundai are doing, its like putting lipstick on a pig. Something is wrong with your car though, the steering wheel is on the wrong side.
