Have to visit the local dealer tomorrow (can you believe it - another puncture, that's 3 in 10 months!), so will ask what they know about an F30 Alpine audio upgrade.

The system they installed in my Golf GTI was markedly superior to the HK System in my BMW. I wish I had removed the Morel Silk Dome Tweeters from my GTI. Too late now.

Oh, how awful. Really feel for you. Time to leave Sussex or change your route.

hi guys, I had asked about this when i got the car as i wanted HK but the deal i had was for a ready made car with no HK
The F30/31 kit isn't out yet, but is a 100% cert. I was receiving emails from my parts guys and it should be available in the UK within the next month or two. the underseat 'subs' are untouched, and just like all the old kits are the same as the PDF linked earlier. I was quoted £600 all in for it. I would go hi end aftermarket, but dont want warranty issues, so this is a compromise. |

It's a disgrace in a car typically costing around £35k, but they are not alone. My company Merc C-Class estate has just gone back and the stock audio system was brutal, totally unnacceptable.

Food for thought....
I have been indulging in ringing all sorts of car audio specialist as Bmw are non of the wiser as to whats going on this department. Seems that every dealer is saying : Yes there is an upgrade available but dont know when, how much or if its even definite.
From what i've been told, despite some allegations that there is an upgrade available is the US from alpine, something tells me we wont see it in the uk despite high demand, for some time. Speaking with a very clued up audio specialist, the feedback was this. 1) Dont be driven towards the Alpine setup because previous models have had these kits made from alpine.there are much better setup's and options available even with OEM. Many have suggested Rockford Fosgate speakers. 2) The only is issue is the volume of space available in the current compartments where all the speakers are as they carry bigger magnets 3)they will offer a much better sound and clarity than the HK option upgrade, but achieve this an additional amp may be needed and sound processor. 4)he said that the alpine kit if released , based on the previous versions, wont be anything like the HK just an improvement on the awful stock system. yes cost might be a little more but thats only down to personal choice. one guy i've spoke to would be happy to do the upgrade however as the f30 model is still pretty new, he has yet to work on them so is a little disadvantaged in knowing which speakers actually fit, until he removes door cards and removing the existing kit. this im reluctant to do as i dont want to be the guinea pig. if some has had the balls to be that, could you please share any relevant information as am sure we would all be interested. hope this post is of some value as i've spent lots of time investigating what can be done because i can not bear the noise, because noise is all it is, that comes out of them s**t speakers. regards cos |

I must admit that I am no audiophile but the sound system in the F30 does not seem very good to me at all and definitely seems to lack decent bass!!
I play all of my music via a USB drive in the armrest, but the radio also seems poor! I have just got the girlfriend a new 208 and the music in that sounds so much better, even to my untrained ear (and it is touch screen)!! I got my car as a AUC so could not spec HK - did not spec it in my last E46 and the system was poor in that too!! I would like better sounds but I guess that I will have to spend quite a bit of money to get them!! What is the best guess for the price of the upgrade, if it does become available? Thanks Last edited by clinton.white; 06-10-2013 at 08:43 AM.. |

I would not be at all surprised that your girlfriend's system is better than the beemers. I remember that my first ever car when i was 17 ( a crappy ford escort ) was better and that was an "m" reg. Regarding the price question, this is the answer that nobody no's yet as prices have yet to be released on a alpine system. thats if it will be released. the only alternative is to go retrofit, which can cost as little or as much as you want, but thats down to preference. You will lose the oem setup by doing this though. This is why the alpine kit if it comes will be so sought after and has been on previous models. To add to my previous post, i have listened to various systems either through owning them or listened to in various cars. i am no trained specialist but i have the ear. i would rate these various systems in this order 1)Bang & olufsen 2)Bose/ Rockford Fosgate ( dependant on the setup) RF have better clarity 3)HK 4)Alpine (Retrofit gives more verstility and clarity dependant on the speaker choice) 5)clinton whites girlfriends 208 6)M reg ford fiesta stock speakers 7) 1920's phonograph 8) Bmw F30 stock speakers |

Spoke with the local dealer who had no information about it at all but said that a new parts catalogue is out soon and he would check in it for me. Seems that the dealers are being given very little information!! |

i was just going to say same as Sytles997... reading the ebay link it says not for pro or business nav systems... that's a big drawback as I am sure many cars have this setup. I also wish to upgrade the system.... not a patch on my old A4 for sound quality.... but as it was a Olympic car I could not choose audio systems...
I would go for any upgrade to current stock setup..... with reasonable pricing. |

Folks where on EBay did you find the link for an Alpine F30 upgrade? As of two weeks ago my dealer in Ireland quoted €950 for product plus fitting but then discovered this was the E90 kit , with no word on anything for the new model.
I won't do anything in any case until BMW explains to me why I cannot use the the same USB stick I had on my previous F10 which was able to search artist, album etc. Looks like I will have to manually recreate playlists in Windows Media Player to get it to work, which for circa 600 albums would be Asian!

+1
When it does finally become available thru the UK dealer network the cost of the parts plus labour is just going to be silly Looking more like an audio specialist will be the way to go. There's a branch of Huet's not far from me - might make enquiries.

Yes, I agree - especially as it is just replacing the 2 front speakers and adding 2 tweeters and leaving the 2 subs and rear speakers alone. I guess that the amp must make all of the difference!?
I am tending to think the same and go to an Indy Audio specialist. Had a 4 hour journey (thanks to traffic congestion on the M25) yesterday and the sound was not very good at all, especially at a slightly higher (but not that high) volume!! Last edited by clinton.white; 08-05-2013 at 05:33 AM.. |
