Buying Used Wheels for a set of Winters
My F31 330d MS is on order (due to be built next week - excitement mounting!) and I am looking at sorting a set of winter wheels and tyres in preparation.
Still haven't decided how to source these (BMW dealer / Aftermarket set / Used) but for budget reasons am looking at a used set, possibly eBay and getting my local tyre guy to shod them. Any advice for a newbie in this regard? - I know I need 18" (MS brakes) and width at 8 or 8.5" to match the existing, possibly going square for winters though (?). Also need to get the offset in the right ball-park (34 front, 47 rear if staggered), but does anyone know the range of offsets I could get away with? Have seen some nice looking 18s on eBay, many coming off 1 Series - would these work if the sizing/offsets are ok? Apologies for lots of questions, but looking for some advice and any recommendations if I go down the used route (or possibly aftermarket). Wouldn't want to risk spending several hundred pounds and then not having the wheels fit, but would like to sort a nice looking set without blowing the budget (did that on the car!). |

I know it's not answering your question about wheel size but I found Tyremen pretty helpful and knowledgable about what sizes would fit. Much cheaper than Bmw quoted me too

I would go for a second hand set of genuine 18" F3x wheels, go square and shod them with a set of non-runflats. There were a set of Luxury 18" ones for £450 on ebay last week but think they might have gone. I'm sure they will come up more frequently as people upgrade.
Enjoy the car when it arrives here's a set: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-f30-3-...item4d122fe7d6

money no object i'd get a set of 18" 400M's seen a few sets go thought ebay for around £750, than add tyres of choice,
i know it's a staggered set, and square would probably be better for winters, but your car would still look the part 12 months of the year... i'll be going back to my 17" sport standard rims in a few months, after i put some winters on them. not looking forward to how they look compared to the 19" 403M rims i currently have though..... |

I picked up a set of 400m yest...they were in mint condition (one small stone chip which I will see if my alloy place will repair) and had brand new Pirelli RFTs (which cost around £900-1000 fitted).
Total price was £850...bargain! |

Thanks guys - would definitely like to get a set of the 400Ms so will keep an eye out (or if anyone on here is upgrading from 18's to those amazing 20's let me know...)
Alternatively may go after-market and get some black or anthracite 5-spokes - easier to keep clean and will have to put up with mates laughing at a mid-40's family man who appears to have 'customised' his car. Plus, thinking black/anthracite might look quite good with the Moonstone I've ordered, at least during the darker months... |

Hi,
Probably a stupid question but I will ask anyway I have a 335d on the way...fitted with the performance brakes so I know I need to get 18" wheels as a minimum. If I get the 'square' set up, which I'm thinking of doing, will the rear wheels just fit? I don't need any spacers etc? I'm thinking of something like those on the link http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-ne...item2582a05b57 Or http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SET-OF-4-B...item3cd606c83f I would get them with 225 45 18 tyres I assume these are the correct tyres? Lastly, and sorry for the questions, I assume I could swap the centre caps and wheel nuts over. Thanks for any help |

Don't worry about swapping over the centre caps, you will be better buying a cheap set of replicas from Ebay for winter and keep your good ones away from salty roads.
As regards the fitment you would need to check out the offsets of the new wheels and compare with original, its pretty easy to do once you have the numbers. Basically I imagine if you buy genuine F30 wheels they will be just fine. |

I have been through this dilemma I am having the 403 wheels with Msport brakes. I got prices from all over but in the end I could not bring myself to put inferior wheels on for months of the year so I am just having Sotto zero run flats fitted to the 403's bargain at 1100 quid, not!!

I've got the m sport plus package on my 330d and got some winter wheels thrown in as part of the deal...... 17's though. Can someone confirm whether they will fit? I was told the performance brakes need the 18's but m sport ok with 17's?

Do you have the M-Sport brakes ? If so 18" are the minimum.

I think they won't fit.
The dealer should have known this as BMW's parts catalogue is very clear - http://realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?...66&hg=85&fg=45 |

I got them from a guy on Ebay, Mike (but did the deal privately, paying via Paypal) he's very helpful & always kept me in the loop on progress & tracking of the wheels. PM me if you'd like his direct email address. Seems he can get most designs. Here is a link to one of his current auctions http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-ne...item258308ab3a Just email him with any requests you may have regarding the tyres.
