Thought this might be of interest to all you "winter wheels" people... from the AA web site...
Association of British Insurers (ABI) Statement Motor insurers recognise that some motorists may wish to fit winter tyres to their car during cold weather. Motor insurers recognise that, whilst no substitute for common sense driving, winter tyres can have a positive impact on improving road safety. To assist in reducing potential uncertainty, the ABI has produced a commitment setting out the position of a number of named motor insurers in respect of the impact on insurance premiums of fitting winter tyres to your car. It's important to check the list of insurers as some require that you inform them if winter tyres are fitted even though there is no effect on premiums or cover. To resurrect an old thread. My car was delivered April 2014. I thought I read somewhere that the newer style TPMS (i.e. direct measurement like in USA for last few years) were now fitted to the 2014 models, potentially meaning if I bought used BMW alloys for winter wheels, I'd need to get 4 TPMS valves as well.
Correct, or barking up the wrong tree? |

Just get a genuine set with the TPMS - it's cheaper.

But why would a dealer have a set of take off winter wheels?
Those prices are at least 20% cheaper than the UK dealers for official winter tyre packages. |

No, take off 400m wheels with summer tyres, then sell summer tyres and buy winter tyres! Total cost around £1000, which is about half the price of the sets in those links!
