I might be interested in a set of 415's including tyres. My car isn't going to be delivered until December but I fear it might be sensible to have a set of winter wheels ready!

Does anyone know if the older 3series models prior to the f30/f31 wheel mount have changed .

If not are they interchangeable?

Thanks

Thanks.

There is loads of alloys listed on eBay and they quote fitting various E** range plus f30 which has confused me!

This is why my dealer refused to do me a set of tyres for my 403M wheels or a staggered set of 400M wheels as winters but he did say they would do a set of 4 fronts 8J's of the 400's

I would have to +1 on what Defero said if its not in black and white its not real.
For anyone interested the tyres I got from Mike were the BMW approved option above. 225/45 RF18 91H Pirelli W210 Winter SottoZero Series 2

Thanks mate, I'm with LV so that's good to know. I'll still call them just so they record it.

You can check the Pirelli SottoZero Series 2 catalogue here - http://www.pirelli.com/tyre/gb/en/ca...eason%3DWINTER

If you click on the 225/45R18 95V, you will see a (*) which shows it is a specialist BMW tyre. Apparently there would be quite a difference between a normal and specialist tyre in terms of development and testing.

No worries. I should also add that they do add a comment on your file about the winter tyres.

Won't the 17s fit because they're from an older model or because of M Sport brakes?

Wont 17s be better in snow than 18s or 19s?!

There is no one amount of offset which is correct F30 can acccept offset between 30-40, center bore is correct which is 72,6mm, width of the alloys is correct there is nothing more what can be incorrect between E90 alloys and F30 alloys.

There are even 16" alloys for F30 but you need to be careful with M-brakes as they will fit 18" alloys and bigger.

Thackers you can remember that If you are checking offset alloys always its better when ET is lower then original then wheels stick out more what gives better look and better driving. Of course it cant be much more different cause wheels can stick out from arches and tyre can rubb arches. I have some knowledge about wheels as Im selling it for 2-3 years but I dont know nothing about insurance companies

Cheers for clearing that up mike, I was not 100 percent, it was just the issue with being 17" on mine then.

Has anyone bought any Conti TS830P 225/45/R18?

I had a real struggle to get them. Continental only had one tyre and an estimated delivery date for more stock of Jan-Feb 2014. I phoned Continental and managed to get a set (through Camskill) but was really surprised how few they are getting in this winter. You would have thought they would have plenty of stock coming in!

I am bemused by the whole idea of having to buy a spare set of rims for winter tyres so I rang my local tyre fitter who I have known and used to fit all my tyres for 15 years and asked him his experience as afterall he will be the guy doing the swaps... and he said he has been changing summer run flats for winter run flats and putting them back on for years without an issue on BMW's. He said he could see no reason for this whatsoever! - so on the basis of saving £1000 I am tempted to just buy the tyres which he is going to price for me based on 18" RF's. Thoughts?

If you speak to the tyre manufacturer technical departments, they will not recommend removing/putting back on RFTs.

A lot of tyre changers use the better lever-less tyre machines now which remove the risk of damage to alloys. Having said that - it's not cheap to keep changing ad rebalancing (probably £150 a year or so).

If somebody have not expensive set of 18" summer wheels he can buy winter tyres and change them everytime he need and probably he will save some pounds but If somebody have more expensive nice set of 18" wheels or bigger 19",20" wheels will be better to buy a set of nice 18" wheels with winter tyres.
Also its common thing that same alloys used in summer and winter with changing from summer rft to winter rft breaking, use to it happens with rear alloys- its much more common thing in BMW 5 F10/F11 with cheapest BMW sets

Last night I ordered a spare set of alloys (genuine 415 x 18") but for £650 - not £1,000 and when they arrive I'll get some tyres (about £700) and that'll be my winter set.

At a grand I wasn't convinced, but at £650 I was able to live with it, just!

Hmmm quotes so far:

£1700 for a brand new set of 17" Bridgestone with 393 Alloys or 17" Pirelli 's with 413 Alloys. BMW Main Dealer. £30 extra to store for 12 months and £30 to swap them.

OR

£977 for a brand new set of 16" steel wheels with BMW wheel covers! Not bad considering it includes Bridgestone Blizzak 16" non run flat winter tyres and you get a puncture kit which I assume is a can of the sealant. This was a BMW main dealer. This price including fitting and 12 months storage.

My alternative is to get a second hand set of 18" 400M for about £950 but my issue is that no one seems able to get the rear wider 255/40 R18 as a winter tyre so that could be a major issue.

This is far more complex than I thought it would be!!!

Thoughts?

You can get a Sotto Zero II for the rear 400M but the tyre is not BMW approved for some reason cheapest I found when I was looking was Openeo
