You can check the Pirelli SottoZero Series 2 catalogue here - http://www.pirelli.com/tyre/gb/en/ca...eason%3DWINTER
If you click on the 225/45R18 95V, you will see a (*) which shows it is a specialist BMW tyre. Apparently there would be quite a difference between a normal and specialist tyre in terms of development and testing. No worries. I should also add that they do add a comment on your file about the winter tyres. |

There is no one amount of offset which is correct F30 can acccept offset between 30-40, center bore is correct which is 72,6mm, width of the alloys is correct there is nothing more what can be incorrect between E90 alloys and F30 alloys.
There are even 16" alloys for F30 but you need to be careful with M-brakes as they will fit 18" alloys and bigger. |

Thackers you can remember that If you are checking offset alloys always its better when ET is lower then original then wheels stick out more what gives better look and better driving. Of course it cant be much more different cause wheels can stick out from arches and tyre can rubb arches. I have some knowledge about wheels as Im selling it for 2-3 years but I dont know nothing about insurance companies

Has anyone bought any Conti TS830P 225/45/R18?
I had a real struggle to get them. Continental only had one tyre and an estimated delivery date for more stock of Jan-Feb 2014. I phoned Continental and managed to get a set (through Camskill) but was really surprised how few they are getting in this winter. You would have thought they would have plenty of stock coming in! |

I am bemused by the whole idea of having to buy a spare set of rims for winter tyres so I rang my local tyre fitter who I have known and used to fit all my tyres for 15 years and asked him his experience as afterall he will be the guy doing the swaps... and he said he has been changing summer run flats for winter run flats and putting them back on for years without an issue on BMW's. He said he could see no reason for this whatsoever! - so on the basis of saving £1000 I am tempted to just buy the tyres which he is going to price for me based on 18" RF's. Thoughts?

A lot of tyre changers use the better lever-less tyre machines now which remove the risk of damage to alloys. Having said that - it's not cheap to keep changing ad rebalancing (probably £150 a year or so). |

If somebody have not expensive set of 18" summer wheels he can buy winter tyres and change them everytime he need and probably he will save some pounds but If somebody have more expensive nice set of 18" wheels or bigger 19",20" wheels will be better to buy a set of nice 18" wheels with winter tyres.
Also its common thing that same alloys used in summer and winter with changing from summer rft to winter rft breaking, use to it happens with rear alloys- its much more common thing in BMW 5 F10/F11 with cheapest BMW sets |

Hmmm quotes so far:
£1700 for a brand new set of 17" Bridgestone with 393 Alloys or 17" Pirelli 's with 413 Alloys. BMW Main Dealer. £30 extra to store for 12 months and £30 to swap them. OR £977 for a brand new set of 16" steel wheels with BMW wheel covers! Not bad considering it includes Bridgestone Blizzak 16" non run flat winter tyres and you get a puncture kit which I assume is a can of the sealant. This was a BMW main dealer. This price including fitting and 12 months storage. My alternative is to get a second hand set of 18" 400M for about £950 but my issue is that no one seems able to get the rear wider 255/40 R18 as a winter tyre so that could be a major issue. This is far more complex than I thought it would be!!! Thoughts? |
