Regarding the fill up, the most I have squeezed in to a tank is also 54 litres, so that is consistent with mine. |

After 5900 miles, my 335D xdrive is still showing 41 mpg. I do struggle to get anywhere near that on a short < 10 mile trip though. So it is the motorway driving that keeps it up.

Results like those of Tengocity who keeps records, brim to brim checks, have particular interest. I note his OBC is over 6% optimistic, what are others finding when we adjust to the most accurate figures we can record without calibrating the speedo. OBC, etc. With all the driver variables and specification variables (like different wheel sets), we can't really cross reference to the official figures for how different xDrive is to sDrive in real world driving, although the only baseline is the official results in that driving cycle. AWD drivetrain losses are not a constant, not even linear with speed and load, so something like changing speed from 60 to 80 mph could add quite a mpg penalty. As to the engine differences 330d vs. 335d, when released in the 5-series, (before the full ECO package was added), the two engines in the F10 5-series gave exact same combined figures under the NEDC driving cycle, but no way do those two models return the same averages from real world feedback. Probably drivers are making the greatest impact, but reality moves us well away from official comparisons. Even more so with the ECO-PRO features added, (totally unrealistic official figures) as some drivers don't drive in conditions which really benefit from them to any real degree. As to how the engine choice bears on xDrive, I've been studying some of the EPA data for the American figures, (sDrive vs. xDrive in the 335i), but not concluded how it compares to diesel power. There are differences, but how much is engine efficiency in the speed ranges of the tests, vs. the impact of actual drivetrain losses is not clear, I've more homework to do. I'm busy over the next two days so won't get a chance to think much about this until Saturday. But do find this an interesting subject as many are moving to xDrive, believing from the official figures there isn't really much of a fuel penalty. I've suggested in other topics that the impact is far greater, in real world driving. I believe as more data comes in it will prove to be so. HighlandPete |

I was quite surprised when my fuel bill came to £69 instead of £85. My OBC is showing just under 43mpg at the moment so I'm guessing it could be slightly out when I compare it to my third party software - my old C class was around 41mpg when I gave it back... |

I though this was a mistake when I first read it. I thought I would return to my VR6 day when I seemed to be forever in a petrol station! Fortunately the 335d has slightly better economy, not to mention better performance.

I wish it was bigger though, as I liked getting 500+ miles out of a tank in previous 3 series diesels. This is about a weeks mileage for us and safely allows me to get from down south up to Scotland without filling up along the way at a ludicrously over-priced motorway service station. The 450 miles we got the other day makes that a rather tight squeeze. Doesn't have to be F10 size, but 63 litres would have been ideal. The range from the petrols must be more like 350-400? I remember getting 650 miles on a tank coming back from Chamonix a few years ago in a 320d... still not good enough to put up with a 4 cylinder diesel though! |

Thank god the fuel economy isn't too bad otherwise I would need a portable filling station following me around all the time!!! I reckon it's almost 10litres smaller than my C Class then... |

57L tank, bugger. That means I can't do Kent and back on a tank. (Annoying as my free diesel comes from a tank here).
A range of sub 500miles is a bit rubbish. |

The thing I've noticed about the 'Trip' MPG is that it usually goes up quite a lot when you get closer to home as the engine has warmed up. You really need to be looking at your 'Trip' figures just before you finish your main journey in order to get a more accurate idea of fuel figures etc.

I might go on a quick cruise up the M40 in the next 20 mins or so to put a few more miles on the Blue Bullet and to tweak my HK settings! If anyone is interested I can post my 'Trip' info afterwards? Let me know so I can take an image to post up...
I will no doubt set my CC to 75mph with the odd overtaking move when required. |

Someone asked to see the revs of my 335i at 70mph...so for the benefit of Man Science (and any excuse to drive the car)...here is a short clip on the national speed dual carriageway nearby with cruise control set to 70, in Eco Pro mode full tank of fuel and two people in the car...and you can see the revs are sat at 1900.
This is also on a very gentle incline, on the absolute flat its at 1800 |

The speeds per 1000rpm in each gear are listed below. For a f30 335i at 1000rpm the speed is: 1st gear: 5.2 mph 2nd: 7.8 mph 3rd: 11.6 mph 4th: 14.6 mph 5th: 19 mph 6th: 24.4 mph 7th: 29.1 mph 8th: 36.6 mph So at 70 mph 335i revs in 8th gear are 1913. For comparison, a f30 335d at 1000rpm the speed is: 1st gear: 6.3 mph 2nd: 9.6 mph 3rd: 14.2 mph 4th: 18 mph 5th: 23.4 mph 6th: 30 mph 7th: 35.8 mph 8th: 45 mph So at 70mph 335d revs in 8th gear are 1556. I'll be happy to get mid 30s mpg for mixed driving in my 335d but I hope it is over 40mpg if ever I stick to 70mph!

Well just got back from my drive so thought I would post a few pics.
I'm not sure how to post them with text in-between so I will just post them all up and take any questions from there. Hope that's OK? I'm not sure how helpful this will be to people but a fellow member messaged me to ask what MPG I was getting so i thought that was a good excuse to go for a drive I have a 335d Xdrive Saloon with adaptive suspension, 18" 400M's on winters, ⅔ tank of fuel and my heated seat on too All my driving this time was in Comfort and CC was set to 75mph - a good all round average I think. I was trying to aim for a very standard drive but obviously these figures will alter depending on your speed etc. As you can see, my OBC started out with 42.2 mpg on the clock and by the time I finished my 80 mile drive it had increased to 42.9 mpg. I can only hope this will increase over time too. The 3rd image shows that my mpg at the halfway point (a service station) was at 48.8mpg. I then headed back and as you can see in the 4th image, the mpg slider underneath the rev counter was showing a pretty steady mpg in the high 40's / early 50's. The end of my trip was 48.2mpg. I live around 4 miles from the motorway so the start and end of the journey were town roads with plenty of traffic lights / traffic. I need to rush off now but I will check back later for any questions... I know this is subjective and I mainly did this to help out another member. |

My main question is how on earth you can cruise at 75mph in such a great car?!
I have to say, that's not bad for a steady cruise, but I would have got mid to high 40's easily doing the same in our old 330d. I'm guessing the sdrive 330d drivers would be getting 50mpg+ ? |
