3 years yes. if i go into my connected drive store it actually shows the expiry date. still.... £120 a year for what....???? google maps gives free and more accurate rtti *probably because more people use it* the weather thig doesnt work, they removed facefook from connected drive, the news app is like reading the telegraph and reading an email is all groovey, even if it may cost you your life.

So okay, I've just registered my vehicle to this after reading through these posts, the car is now activated, its within 6 months old, has the business media, etc so from what I can make out is eligible from my understanding for this 3 years free service.
Yet via BMW's page I'm being shown I now have 2 vehicle apps and 4 that can be booked / paid for ranging from 240 quid to a tenner for RTTI. Maybe I need to give the system time to update and check it again tomorrow, but at the moment it doesnt look like I have any free 3 year service. Does anyone have any personal experience of this process who could elaborate a little further please as to what I should be expecting / or what will happen? |

I bought a used 530d that was 3 years old, rang about connected drive and they said it had never been activated for the car and gave me three years free from that point, which was nice.

I got a text from BMW saying my connected drive option was about to expire and I needed to renew by connecting to a link provided. As you would expect with BMW and the Internet, the connection did not work. Then got an email saying it was expiring and telling me to log into My BMW or something and (have you guessed yet?), it mentioned nothing about renewal.
Now I know I am old and senile and can no longer remember things but I was pretty convinced that the connected drive sub last three years and my car is just 2 years old. In best Victor Meldrew fashion I emailed the BMW connected drive people and within a day had a clear and lucid answer. Apparently the renewal applied to the Internet option. This £95 option apparently only lasts a year but at the end of my first year BMW had not worked out how to renew so extended it to two years. She also confirmed that the main connected drive option lasts for 3 years and 90 days from the point of MANUFACTURE. I did not renew the Internet option as it is 'orribly slow and much easier and quicker to use the iPhone with 4G. I assume the Internet option on BMW runs on 1G it is so poor. At least I can draw comfort with the thought that this is both the cheapest option I selected and the only one I regret. After all I could have wasted much more money on GAP or comedy wing mirrors! |

I use the online search loads, my job involves working in lots of accountancy firms. So my car has button 7 set up to go direct to online search. Press button 7, press the idrive controller down and then say the company name. 9.5 times out of 10 it gets it first time.
I never use 'send to car' for that reason

Then just send to car, great as it invariably includes telephone number. Used to concierge service today, was at Ford garage in Wolverhampton and needed to go to Peugeot in Telford. Had them send me Nav details including telephone contact. In about 1 minute, I had Nav route sorted, telephone Peugeot garage and was ready to go. |

Well it appears my understanding of this service / package was wrong.
After registering my car last night, being sent the code, etc I have 2 packages free. I rang BMW customer services today to find out more and we also went into Stratstone Derby and had a face to face convo about this and other stuff. (I REALLY wish I hadnt seen the M4's there!!) What I have been told is that BMW have now changed the rules with this service, and it is only free for 3 years if registered with the 1st owner and no longer interchangable throughout the 3 years. Really doesnt surprise me in the least, but it was worth asking the questions. I'm 2nd owner on a car 5 months old, it appears the 1st owner didnt register the service,..... I have, but now if I want the full package it is a minimum of 250 quid, with 10-15 quid upgrades for things like RTTI and concierge. As nice as the services are, its not worth that much per year vs how much I will use them (annual of 18k a year miles) |

My S5 had over the air traffic and I regularly found myself in traffic jams on the motorway, or (and the biggest frustration) being rerouted off the motorway into worse traffic on the A-roads with everyone leaving the motorway. Three years of over the air made me ignore all detouring it suggested. RTTI for me is worth £xxx's in saved time. It's the main reason I bought pro nav when I ordered the car.
