Am I right in thinking that BMW use connected drive to monitor all BMW's for traffic information? Where you are and how fast you're moving?

If so, why should you have to pay for the service. You give them some info, you should get something in return, right?

RTTI for me is worth £xxx's in saved time. It's the main reason I bought pro nav when I ordered the car.
I have found rtti really good and think it's one of the highlights of the system. Far superior to the aldi system

I'm fully onboard with you there. 16k of my annual is on my work commute, same trip always (work from home twice a week).
I would perhaps justify the price if my annual mileage consisted of travelling to different destinations weekly.
But 250+ smackers per year is just not worth it to me....I can gauge the re-routing and flow well enough using the standard Live traffic system (updated every 3 mins)
If it was free for the next few years on the other hand, for me to weigh up through experience of all systems, then it may make me re-think that.

But BM have now taken that option away, which in the long run could have resulted in me paying extra for it always.
Their loss or mine?....who knows?

just got an email about this.
what i really want is the send to car and RTTI

they offer: ConnectedDrive Services (£120 p/y) and ConnectedDrive Services Plus (£210 per year)

for what i want then i think i must get the ConnectedDrive Services Plus at £210 per year. WTF....i only do around 9k per year and its quiet useful but i mights as well get a TomTom....

ConnectDrive Services (£120) includes "Intelligent traffic guide: precise traffic information and recommendations for alternative routes" i guess this aint RTTI

On their website all I can find is:

http://www.bmw.co.uk/en_GB/footer/q-...cteddrive.html

How much does BMW Assist cost?

In the case of vehicles with Navigation system Professional (option 609) and Navigation system Business (606) together with Bluetooth mobile phone with telematics (option 633/6NL) built in or after September 2008 (X5 and X6 October 2008, X3 September 2010) the BMW ConnectedDrive service package is free of charge for three years from the point of first activation. After the initial complementary period, use of the BMW ConnectedDrive services is subject to an annual subscription charge of £120.00 per year.

How comes there is a rip-off ConnectedDrive Services Plus option and what do you get extra?

Just as an aside to this; I've got the "Internet" option on mine, cost me £95 when I ordered the car new and although I don't use it very much thought 'what the hell' considering all the other pro nav/multi-media stuff that was on the car. Anyway brochure says this service is only for the first 12 months then has to be renewed by subscription, it's wrong!......It's the same as connected drive and also lasts for 3 years then gets renewed within the connected drive renewal package.
Suppose the renewal subscription is probably worth it if you have a lot of the connected drive/internet/pro nav, etc options but maybe not if you only have one of them for instance?
So you can confirm that the Internet option is for 3 years not just 12 months? I have ordered this on my new car and thought it was only for 12 months?
My Internet connection expired after a year (not 3) and my (03/15)car says that I need to renew it in order to get it working again. I was a bit miffed TBH. As I thought . Expected it to be for 3 yrs.
It is crap anyway and I wouldn't use it

Yes it is supposed to last the 3 years. My 640d is just over 3 years and I've only had it 2 months and have the full package but it's due to run out in April as they didn't activate it for 6 months which is handy for me. It goes from when it's activated. £120 is fine with me as I used connected drive all the time.

That's a bloody con - when I bought the car those features were £120 per year, I might complain.

This. And unfortunately then the usefulness of it for everyone who has subscribed is reduced.

Have to say that £210 is a bit cheeky for that.... it's more than the road tax and a good chunk of the insurance costs.

I thought that RTTI basically uses mobile phones, vehicle fleets and taxis as pointers to judge traffic flow? That's what the BMW site says. Scroll down and click on the video for RTTI.

Just a thought, those who have been offered the £210 option - are your cars business or professional nav?

I can understand if they charge more for business nav RTTI as it never had it originally (IIRC).

Just renewed mine. Had 2 options, connectedDrive services and connectedDrive services plus.
I opted for connectedDrive services and can confirm it includes RTTI, send to car and remote services.
From what I can tell the only difference with the plus version is you get Internet. I had it included for the first 3 years and that's all I have lost.
