From what I can tell the only difference with the plus version is you get Internet. I had it included for the first 3 years and that's all I have lost.
I can back this up. I renewed my subscription a couple of months ago and quizzed them on the difference - it is indeed just the internet access. RTTI and all of the other stuff works fine with the "standard" services.

RTTI is definitely worth it. It was absolutely spot on this evening. On the main orbital motorway around Dublin, the M50 it was dead accurate on the delaya, where they were and how long it would be. 27 mins delay.

i can just about stump the £120 for the ConnectDrive Service, as i really want RTTI and send to car from the BMW app, not worried about the internet as i have my phone.

I found the internet a complete waste of time. Tried it when I first got the car and found it too slow, text was too small and entering search text via the idrive controller was a pain. Its far easier and quicker to use your phone.

How much does a sim card cost per annum with a reasonable amount of GB's data. I would suggest of the order of £15 per month at least, so £180 pa. Reduce that a bit for BMW bulk buying and add something on for provision of concierge services etc and £210 could be justifiable.

Many expensive in-car nav systems rely on Fm RTS which has a human intervention which delays the info by upto 30 mins which is why it turns out relatively useless.

Longer term BMW may have a problem if they run out Google car or the Apple version. If those systems produce the same sort of usability and traffic info via Google maps, Waze, the in car screen and bluetooth, then many will buy extended bluetooth and Google car rather than pro media and connected drive.

I think some Skoda's and Audis offer the equivalent of google play linking in mobile apps to the in car screens at present as an alternative to the higher VW group nav systems. Unfortunately, a friend did not add this to a Yeti he recently had delivered so I have yet to see one of those setups in action.

What does look overall best value but with the inconvenience of non-built-in. modern car interior having less suitable spots to place them and theft risk, are the Garmins and Tom Toms around a one off £250 to £300 with for life free digital traffic and included their own free for life sim and map updates. no easy way of arranging a HUD and with some you have to pay for speed camera updates.

For post mid 2015 cars it will be interesting to see what the connected drive post 3 years charge is including over the air map updates.

Unfortunately the best on the balance of performance and convenience is likely to be the most expensive is likely to be the

My 3 data sim for my ipad costs me £7 for 1GB, and that's enough to stream a lot of data, and certainly a lot more than a car needs for RTTI. So I think that £120 was perhaps fair enough, but £210 is a bit cheeky. But I suppose as someone who does a lot of miles on busy roads, the "value" of this service makes it something I will pay for still, even if begrudgingly.

Sorry for taking this a bit OT, but I don't really understand the point of an iPad with a data sim, both for the extra £100 the iPad costs and the monthly data charge. Is there a reason that you prefer not to have a standard WIFI iPad and use your iPhone as a personal hotspot, given that an additional 1GB of data on your phone contract will probably cost a fair bit less than £7?

I set it up ages ago when my phone was on Vodafone (hated the network but as the office had boosters set up I had a great signal where I spent the most time). VF have shite 3G coverage around the country so liked the 3 sim card as it worked in so many places that VF didn't.

Now that I WFH or on the road I changed my own phone to 3 as well, it may make sense to do as you suggest and just connect to my phone. But the £7 is pretty inconsequential and it's slightly less hassle.

I totally understand that plenty folk see it as a waste of money, and I do think £100 extra for the functionality is a bit of a rip off, but that's Apple all over and lots of us are suckers for it! But it's an Mini 2 and so quite a few years old, and can't complain about how much problem-free use I've had from it over the years. Same with my iPhone- Sim only contract now and will just keep this till the revised one is worth having.

Interesting topic though - may be worth a new thread in the OT section!

Anyone know if I can link my google maps traffic to my business satbav on my 1 series .ive been told I can upgrade to connective drive for 240 one off fee then pay 50 pounds a year for traffic that seems so expensive. I'm happy to use my own data on my iPhone

What year is your 1 series? As my 2016 came with business nav standard and connecteddrive subscription, just paid the £50 for remote services!

My 3 year subscription has ended now. The options I see available today are:

-RTTI: 1 month £10, 6 months £30.
-BMW Online: 6 months £25, 12 months £35
-Concierge Services: 1 month £15

Is there any way to book 12 month RTTI? I dont see those plus £120 packs mentioned above.

The following services are still showing as "booked":
- Remote Services,
- ConnectedDrive Services,
- TeleServices
- Intelligent Emergency Call

Are these "eternal"?

I have the same. Just bought the car and BMW have confirmed (Connected Drive helpline) that those 4 services are for the lifetime of the vehicle.

Bit of an old thread so most of it has changed now! Log onto BMWConnectedDrive (register and follow instructions to sync with your car if you haven't already - this bit is free!)... You'll then see what services are booked and their expiry dates plus options you can pay for that are specifically available to your car and its options (some are £1 for 1 months trial).
