Just got my F30 wanted to give some input
Hey guys, finally picked up my F30 335i msport with all options other than lighting and dynamic. I have to say I love this car and everything about it so far. I don't know why everybody is complaining about the steering I think its great and the steering weight is perfect. ALthough, I am a bit surprised on how much understeer there is. I am coming from a 08 vw r32 and that had noticeably less understeer than the f30 even though it was awd. What can I do to reduce the understeer a bit?
THanks

Put some miles on the tires and break them in. Then adjust your tire pressures to favor oversteer if you're still not happy. Did you get staggered tires?

The stock tires are fine. Steering geometry and tire size bias is more of a culprit. Staggered tires are esthetically nice, but they create understeer because the larger rear tires provide more grip than the narrower fronts. You should be able to balance everything with your tire pressures. Higher pressures in the rears relative to the fronts will provide more oversteer bias.

These third gen RFTs are pretty damn good, but pushed really hard in the twisties they "scrub" some. Michelin Sport Pilots are better for sticking.
I'm going to keep mine until they wear out and then probably go back to the Pilots.

It's more about the difference front to rear as opposed to the actual pressures. For a squared setup I'd say 3-4 psi difference would be a good starting point. For a staggered setup you'd probably want to add another 50% or so to those figures. There are many different variables so you really need to take the time to do some trials until you find a happy medium. Most people overlook the fact that tire pressures have a huge impact on handling balance.

I thought Slime like products ruin your wheels. Although my M3 came with a similar kit.

After getting two tire punctures while driving at highway speeds I am a HUGE fan of run flats. I was able to slow down and drive home to park the car in shame
The next working day I was able to drive the car to the dealership at about 40mph. I travelled at least 40 miles at each incident. It's that peace of mind that I can't afford to lose.
