Is my F30 totaled???
Hey guys... got into an accident tonight, some lady ran a red while I was going straight and I ended up t-boning her rav 4.... long story short everyone is ok but my car was NOT in drivable condition. I could not shift out of park and when I started up the engine there was this loud churning noise or something that sounded like it was caught or had hesitation. Below are pics of the damage, what do you guys think? Is she a goner for good?

Wow I'm glad that everyone is ok. Looking at it, it seems totaled to me, esspacially that fluids came out which probably means radiator and engine damage. Looking at the bright side time to start thinking about what to buy next

Everyone's OK which is the main thing. It hurts to see your car in that state, don't think I'd have started it though myself, just in case.
Hope the claim process goes OK for you and you get a replacement. Saj |

I wouldn't that fixed as it will never drive or feel the same, hopefully it will be written off and look forward to a replacement car.

Never start a vehicle after a wreck. Especially when all of the fluids are obviously leaking all over the place. If it wasn't totaled before, it is now.

def totaled from the looks of it. Any witnesses to back up your story?
I had an accident last october when a college kid ran a red..same thing, I had to T bone him. Had 6 witnesses than concured with my story and the cops even gave the other kid a ticket for running a red...one year later...I still haven't gotten my deductible as the other kids insurance doesn't want to pay |

Not sure if it will be totaled. I'm not really sure if you have any say in the matter. How fast were you going? Looks like the F30 took it like a champ. Impressive safety.

If the bags went off I would say yes definitely. There is quite a bit of damage but your car is worth a lot. Looks repairable based on the pix but it will depend on the hidden damage (engine/trans/inner structure). The ins co may authorize a tear down so they gauge the full scope of the damage.
Sounds like you're ok so that is the most important thing.

No sideways displacement, so just a bunch of parts to be replaced. "Total loss" usually means the cost of repair exceeds the post-repair value. Pretty hard to tell here. But you would be laid up without a car for heaven knows how long, with BMW's parts system still struggling, as far as I am aware. Replacing the car seems like the best outcome for you.
I see lots of people acknowledging the good luck of a bad accident with no injuries. I don't think luck has much to do with it. These are very safe cars. Maybe luck to the extent of there being no "offset" in your impact. |

It is up to the carrier whether to total the car.
The determination is based on what it will cost the company: is it cheaper to pay the FMV of the vehicle, minus the salvage value, or is does it cost less to repair the car? It is a purely economic decision. As with all modern cars, the F30 did its job and protected the occupants. I am sorry to learn of the accident. It is a tremendous bother dealing with the issue. |

Glad you're ok - the car did its job.
As for whether or not its totaled, that depends on everything stated above. If the motor is trashed and there's underlying damage, then I would think (uneducated guess) that its totaled. |
