Or just drive whatever box on wheels i have and save the money for future and investments? |

I do agree with you, the interiors do look a little bit lack lustre in comparison to mercs and audis.
But that's the thing for me, why I keep coming back to BM. As much as it would be nice to have a digital dashboard, a wine bar-esque interior and changing the interior lights would be a gimmick I'd briefly enjoy, it feels like Bm have ignored all the chinsy stuff, and prioritised making the car drive well, comfortable to sit in and ensure everything works and makes sense, they just feel better to drive in my opinion. You say that Audi tech is better, but in my opinion (based on my wife's Last car which was an Audi and countless hire cars through work) the Audi tech is for show. The MMi looks good, but it's slow and glitchy in comparison to idrive, which is smooth. Everything is where you think it would be. In 10years, 4bmws and I reckon close on to 400k miles Idrive has never frozen or crashed. It's always just worked. On the maintenance side I've only ever needed consumables and a wheel bearing, which will do for me. It's horses for courses, bmws are not quite as plush inside as their competitors, but they focussed on the engineering, making the car brilliant and intuitive to operate, and that matters most to me, and probably a few others on the forum too. I also think they get the external styling right nowadays too. With regards to motorsport heritage- just because there's no F1 presence doesn't mean they are absent or have been absent. They currently run gt programmes all over the world, I'm pretty sure they won the DTM last season, and a quick Google will show that they were pretty dominant in the 90s at Le Mans, either with their own cars or the Mclaren F1, which had a beemer engine. It can't quite match Porsche or Audi, but whilst I appreciate motorsport engenders brand loyalty, anyone who buys a car because some of the racing tech will be on their car is deluded. With regards to Merc's racing heritage- you know it isn't really Mercedes- its actually a British company called Ilmor, they have been completely bought out by merc now but it's still the same set up |

Stick with box on wheels until a Veyron is in budget, it has nicer exhausts, better rear lights and cool dashboard. Less room than an S-Class is a pity though, not sure what Bugatti were thinking!?!

I was expecting 40i to have loud exhaust note when engine is idle or stop at the traffic light etc. But couldn't hear the sound at all... Definitely needs aftermarket exhaust system, and this is first thing i would do if i had 40i. |

Must be stupid fast, and i guess it will overtake any cheap Porsche or 440i before their ZF gearbox and PDK attempt to even downshift... |

Don't mean to look down on 440i owners but anyone thinks it is a fast car probably have never driven or been in a real fast car lol. It makes me smile when someone claims how fast or powerful it is and how many times it is better than 4 cylinders etc. I've always compared the 40i with C43 AMG before, but not anymore now as C43 is clearly on another level with far superior sound...another minus for BMW this round

Compared to the vast majority of cars on the road the 440i is exceptionally powerful. Perhaps compared to super cars... not so much but the 440i is not and does not pretend to be such. I would think that a car putting out north of 300bhp is going to be more than enough power for most. |
