I suspect that's for the lane departure warning system?

This is a very long thread, so I assume this has been discussed and I missed it--but I notice a couple of posts from people talking about short bursts of strong, harmonic vibration. That's exactly what the lane departure warning feels like.

Is there any correlation in general between vibration and having/not having the lane departure warning system? (For the record, we do have the system, and we don't get the vibration so far.)

I drove a luxury line with tech, not sure about lane departure. It had a different steering wheel and did not have the vibration.

WoW, this seems terrible on BMW's part to not issue some sort of a fix regarding this issue. Leaves a sour taste in people's mouths when they are trying to have the "new car" experience.

It shouldn't have to be dependant on your dealership being on your "side" to have a replacement car given to you or nevertheless ANY option given to you. If a few people on here are getting replacements it should be homogeneous across all. IMO Good luck.

Update.

So, i have 2 options.

Get into a 335, MG, leather, sportline, HK, sport auto, 19's for the same i paying monthly for my 328

Or get a 328 msport, leather, sport auto, HK, xenons, for about 40bucks a month less than my current payment.

Not sure what to do, am going to the dealer tomorrow.

2013 328 M Sport - vibration still exists as far as my car is concerned. comes in around 45 and lasts until about 60. It is not horrible by any means, it's just there. I can live with it, it's minimal. I love the car anyways!

I've been dealing with the steering wheel vibration since day 1.

Now, I'm starting to notice that I can feel the vibration throughout the entire car at high speeds (80mph+).

Is it just me or does anyone else notice it?

I have the usual steering wheel shimmy that everyone is upset about, which occurs between 40-60mph, during which the actual ride of the car is perfectly smooth.

The steering wheel vibration/shimmy goes away after 60, and until 80, the ride is perfectly smooth.

After 80 (specifically, when approaching 90mph), the vibration suddenly appears in the ride of the car - the steering wheel does not vibrate/shimmy at high speeds, but I can feel it in the car.

It's not the usual vibration I grew accustomed to in cheaper cars that had alignment/balancing problems with the tires, where the vibration would seem to move from the front of the car, through the middle of the car, and then out the back of the car while traveling at highway speeds.

In my 328i, this vibration is constant after 80mph.

I'm starting to regret trading in my MINI for this car... the MINI had NO vibration issues whatsoever from day 1.

damn, i just completed a trade with my F30 328 that had the steering vibration issue. They are putting me in a 335 mSport. really hoping the car doesnt vibrate. I dont understand how some cars vibrate and others dont.

I am going to tell the shop forman who i know to drive my car before i take delivery and make sure its all good. just in case he needs to balance the tires or do an alignment.

Vibrations that are getting worse with mileage, and at the higher speeds do appear to be wheel/tire related.

I'd be wanting a master wheel set fitted, (at least a different set) to see if it changes the vibrations.

i faced the vibration problem initially when i bought the car. i took the car to the dealership and they didn't seem to understand the problem instead they blamed it on the roads in the middle east.

i've driven my car almost 2500 kms now and the problem seem to have disappeared by itself or maybe i've gotten used to it!

That's bad.
Shaking hands means a serious problem somewhere.
That vibration is causing front end parts to wear much quicker than they normally would.

Tell them to fix it, or just lemon the farking thing.

I'm sure you've thought of all that. I'm just in agreement.

Just picked up car and I can confirm it has a subtle vibration at 40-60 mph. Its barely noticiable now but I only have 200 mls on the clock. MY2012 328i Sportline with no Adaptive M Suspension or VSS.

Is there any real data behind this fault yet? Like whether it's till affecting cars coming from the factory, is it limited to cars with/out VSS/LDW/AS or left/right hand drive?

Or is it accross all cars in all flavours and pretty random?

The shop forman at my dealer seems to think its a hardware issue and not a software issue.

He told me he was talking to a BMW engineer and heard there might not be enough amperage to the steering box. No question its related to the electric steering. I am having my car replaced with a 335, and i would be surprised if the car was vibration free but im hoping. lol

Heard back from my local Director of Service today and the engineer he spoke with from Germany said that :even his own F30 does it" and it is a global issue. I was told to wait and BMW NA or Germany will eventually fix it? The engineer also said they felt it was either a suspension geometry issue or a software update is need for the electronic steering.

Not sure how long I am supposed to wait? I already have 5700 miles on mine. Maybe I should mention the "lemon" word to the General Manager?

I have a 2013 328i, no-line model with the 17" wheels/Bridgestone tires. Have about 350 miles on it, haven't noticed any steering wheel shimmer/shake. Seems like most of the posts I've read that have the problem are with the 2012, but then again, the 2013's are just now getting on the road.

call BMWNA and tell them you want a new car. Call the gm of the dealer and let him know whats going on. Dealer wont want to lemon it because then the title has lemon on it...

Any tips on who to contact at BMW NA - called that main number and they said they couldn't help me.

Thanks!

Calling BMW NA is not going to help you. You need to deal with BMW NA through your dealership. Have the dealership general manager deal with them. Otherwise BMW will ignore your complaint. The BMW customer service denied my request twice and told me they will not do anything. Then I mentioned the lemon law to my dealerships GM and within the same week BMW NA bought the car back from me and paid everything back. In my case my dealership was very helpful.

Good luck with your case.
