Supersprint Full Exhaust Review
Finally installed the full Supersprint exhaust system. 100mm Exhaust Tips Package arrived from Supersprint. Review: Supersprint's fit & finish is superb, especially the welds. It uses 304 & 409 high grade stainless steel, each piece is hand made in Mantova, Italy. The 100mm exhaust tip design is sporty yet sophisticated. There's ample amounts of exhaust notes, that's civilised and refined, what you would expect from a European vehicle. Pros: + Welds + Quality + TUV Approved + Hand made in Italy + Aggressive style + Sophisticated tone + Heritage & Reputation + Light weight + Performance + Modular System + Little to no drone + Emission compliant + No fumes + Decent cabin noise + 200 CPSI HJS Catalytic Converter Cons: - Very Expensive - Long backorder times up to 3 months. - Not enough cracks and pops - Not loud enough Part Numbers:
Exhaust & Centre Pipe only Before Downpipe ( Exhaust + Center Pipe): Cold starts is very similar to that of the M Sport stock exhaust. The tone is subtle & civilized, not too aggressive however under load around 2-3K rpm the tone changes into a sporty European tone with some blips in the upshifts and at 4K rpm and above the exhaust noise is amplified and with the windows down you can hear it crack and pop a bit. Exhaust, Centre Pipe, Down Pipe & Front Pipe After Downpipe (Downpipe + Front Pipe): No CEL errors triggered as of yet as Supersprint uses a HJS 200 Cell Hi-Flow Cat. Performance is noticeably better after the downpipe, even before a tune, the car feels awakened and acceleration feels smoother the resistance from the pedal is completely removed. As for the exhaust note, it feels like the exhaust is on steroids. The differences is night & day, it starts to growl around 2-3K rpm producing subtle blips with slight traces of drone. Push it to 3-4K rpm the exhaust unleashes a loud howl with pops and bangs whilst maintaining a Euro feel to it and edges you ever so slightly to floor the pedal to unleash the full tone. Exhaust, Centre Pipe, Down Pipe, Front Pipe, Intake & ECU Tune After Intake & Tune: No foul odours or CEL errors yet. The performance has been measured at 322hp after the tune & intake so power & torque has increased with quick burst of power when accelerating. The sound is similar to before the intake & tune, except it has a blowoff valve noise which may take some time getting used to... each time, I let off the accelerator, A gush of wind is being forced rammed into the engine. At 1.5K rpm the exhaust burbles a bit and blips as you downshift it produces some cracks and growls around 3-4K rpm. Haven't taken it beyond this as of yet. Drive video - Day Drive video - Night

Those 4" exhaust tips look perfect! I've been debating upgrading from my 3.5" tips to 4" and your photo has convinced me to go for it!
BTW, GREAT first pic!!

No worries, take it for a spin at the next meet
I take back the word, Supersprint being quiet. It's like the exhaust is on a double dose of steroids with the downpipe & frontpipe.

I noticed a bit of drone around 2K, with the downpipe it's amplified the drone a bit as well. The drone isn't noticeable with the windows up.

1) The rear diffuser is nice too, is it a MP or aftermarket one? 2) Did you feel any loss in low end with catback only? 3) Any smell with high flow DP? Even a tiny little bit if you look for it? Also looking forward to your update with a tune. Hoping it's not a JB4 that will delete CEL, cuz we would like to know that HJS cat is truly light free by itself.

1) Thanks, It's the M Performance Rear Diffuser. 2) Not too noticeable however high up the Rpm torque has increased. 3) No smell or CEL errors with the SS high flow DP, I've heard some cheaper ones throwing CEL errors with rich fuel protruding into the cabin. It definitely wont be a JB4, going for an ECU tune once I fit in the GruppeM Intake probably this weekend.

The 335i is around $15-20K extra over a 328i brand new, at about $85-90K AUD and the M3-M4 sits around $150K. Actually cheaper than the e92 M3 when it was new at $178K.

I'll keep modding the 328 till I get bored & trade it in for a M4 or something else.

Recording the next video tomorrow. It's getting an ECU tune at the moment & installing the GruppeM CAI intake.

I have the MPE (valve locked open) AFE momentum intake and BMS stg1. I debated getting the SS system, but having seen videos of both systems, I went for the MPE. I'd always wondered if I was unfair on SS, so thank you for what is without a doubt the best series of vids on what the SS exhaust sounds like. You are an absolute legend for that.
Compared to your set up, mine seems a bit louder (not much though, it's more there's a bit more of a hollow howl as the rpm climbs). I also notice that mine is making popcorn (what the kids call it, when they're in the car) all the time when I let off the throttle, especially in Eco-Pro. The day I had the exhaust installed, I took my foot off the accelerator, heading downhill into a tunnel, and it sounded like someone was firing an AK-47 in the boot. I worried I'd get tired of that, but fortunately I'm far too childish to ever get sick of that. I think your SS money has gone into designing a really nice, refined, civilised exhaust, while the cheaper MPE seems to be a bit more raw and uncouth. Maybe it's the tune? Looking forward to hearing it over 4k rpm as for me, this is where the engine loves to be. You've inspired me to stop being lazy and put my gopro on to charge. If it stops raining I'll go record some popcorn. |

Thanks a lot Knightsabers!! This info is 👌👌
I'm tossing up between these two, the super sprint and the MPE for my beautiful F20 LCI 125i (B48). I've been leaning towards the SS but you've intrigued me Ilovewagons... Is it still possible to hear that popcorn? Currently only looking at installing catback at this time, so anyone with a custom exhaust on a bmw 2 litre share your experiences!! (N20 or current B48) Cheers |
