do you have GAP insurance on your vehicle policy - if so, you will receive a payoff if it is totaled with no shortage for depreciation

If damage is 75% or greater of value of vehicle it will be totaled. Being that u said 23k for engine, add parts, paint and labor plus tax. Well over 30k. Then they will look at similar cars being sold in your area. That's how they determine the price of your vehicle, not by what you paid originally. They will do the math and most likely you will be totalled.

On a side note. I don't know how engine will be messed up from hail storm unless it was driven into a flood. But the adjuster will inspect and investigate and if there is probable cause that their wasn't any negligence in the engine being flooded, then you will get totaled. If they see it otherwise, well your out of luck cuz they won't pay it.

Also 23k for the engine? So 50% of the 335's value is in the engine? That' absurd.

Nothing a little paintless dent removal (PDR) couldn't fix.

It's lower than 75%, at least it was when I worked for an insurance company.

Massive hail just rolled through the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. I live about 3 miles from Classic BMW in Plano and we had 15 minutes of golf ball and larger size hail. Wouldn't be surprised if their cars looked the same as the ones taken by the OP.

So sad this is sometimes mother nature is very cruel to us. Thank God it is only material damage. I wonder what the repair procedure will be here or are we looking at a total write off of the body (save everything else) ... what a shame ....

Totalling the car is a state-by-state thing, the percentages are different everywhere.

OP - you mentioned needing a new engine and then your friends X3 having water in the intakes. Were you guys driving through a flash flood? You aren't going to get water into the engine from hail...
