Vargas turbo upgrade available

Looks like Vargas might have their turbo upgrade done for the N55

From their website

Quote:
N55 Stage 2 upgrade consists of a genuine Garrett Dual Ball bearing center section, coupled with VTT custom reverse wheels. The compressor is a full billet GTX style 11 blade wheel, and the turbine is a Garrett 9 blade blade, these are the same wheels you would find in the GTX line up, but made in reverse rotation per our specs. This upgrade will support 500-550WHP with quick spool and plenty of flow to redline.

No, it's N55 engines.

They're working on getting it tested with the proper tuner. Apparently, COBB wants to tune the E9x N55 and people that want to be testers have been F30s.

Not sure the exact reasoning other than the tuners feel more confident with the E9x since they've had more time working with them. It'll probably be a bit before there are tunes for this upgrade for the F30s unfortunately.

Edit: Was going to link the thread from another site, but apparently this site doesn't like that sort of thing.

Now, there's an expensive way to void your warranty...but I suppose if this interests you, then warranty isn't a concern.

Precisely...

I think it's VTT (it could be RB) that is utilzing the 'shell' of the existing turbo housing so you can't even tell it's not a stock turbo visually. Someone would really have to get into it to be able to tell the difference.

From their site:
"Warranty Information

All stage 1′s and stage 2 turbochargers are completely factory bolt on and will not require modification of your car in anyway"

But yea, to your point, the person upgrading their turbo probably isn't really worried about their warranty. But hey if you're into 500+whp in a 335, you may not be the kind of guy worrying about petty warranties right?

will a bigger turbo like this make more noise when accelerating and stuff?

I always thought that sound is sweet.

Exactly. I'll definitely look in to something like this when I hit 40k miles or so. I already have 11k in 9 months so I'm not TOO far off.

And who is going to properly tune this kit without a direct flash? DME/ECU access?

I'm sure they're going to work with the popular tuners to make this attractive. I'm guessing BMS and Cobb would be no brainers, but they'll be others I'm sure.

Just because we have an N55 doesn't mean it will run. Although I would love to see this and get to the power I was used to having with my E60 535/E90 335. But the F30/F10 are more difficult to tune so we will not see these for a little while on our cars.

BMS ordered a set for their F30 335 and will be developing JB4 tuning for it. Most likely will require methanol to function properly due to the lack of F30 back end flashing tools available.

BUT, at 105,000 miles on the clock in 2018, I'll be doing this, because I'll be out of the warranty and the engine/turbos will need a quick rebuild anyhow

will the transmission not require to be upgraded to be able to handle the additional torque? Or is the thought process more like ..."shove 500lbft of torque into the tranny designed to take 350 lbft and hope the tranny can keep running at least a year or two by when it would anyway be time to buy the next car"

Would love an answer to this one. How much power can the stock drive-train handle???

Our tranny is the ZF 8HP45 which is only rated at 450nm

Right

But the big diesel F30 has the 8HP70, so a swap is likely possible
